Le Lycée International de Boston est entré dans sa 55ème année et nous pouvons en être fiers !

Le Rapport Annuel est l’occasion de mettre en avant notre environnement pédagogique international,

notre engagement envers l’analyse critique et notre passion pour un apprentissage se poursuivant toute la

vie et donnant à nos élèves les clés de leur réussite future.

Le format du Rapport Annuel permet de faire le bilan des réalisations et succès de l’année écoulée, tout en

détaillant les programmes et propositions à venir dans le but de renforcer l’apprentissage des élèves. Par

exemple, au Campus de Cambridge, nous sommes très satisfaits de la récente signature du bail sur le

bâtiment du Couvent, ce qui va transformer notre école en fournissant l’espace supplémentaire

indispensable, non seulement pour les classes supérieures de l’Élémentaire, mais permettant aussi la

réorganisation de notre bâtiment principal, ce qui sera un atout pour les élèves du Collège et du Lycée.

Enfin, le Fonds d’Excellence est destiné à soutenir nos efforts philanthropiques en vue de ces améliorations

qui ont un effet direct sur nos programmes, nos infrastructures, ainsi que sur les buts et objectifs liés à notre

Mission. Soutenir le Fonds d’Excellence garantit l’avenir du LIB et nous sommes reconnaissants envers toutes

les familles qui choisissent notre école.

The International School of Boston has entered its 55th year and we have plenty to celebrate!

The Annual Report provides an opportunity to showcase our international learning environment, our

commitment to critical thinking and building a love for life-long learning as essential skills that will equip our

students with the tools needed for their future success.

The Annual Report provides a format to highlight the achievements and successes from the past year as

well as showcase ongoing programs and offerings that benefit student learning. For example, we are very

excited about our recent lease of the Convent on the Cambridge campus, a facility that will transform our

school by providing the necessary additional space needs for not only our upper elementary grades but

also a reorganizing of the main building that will benefit students in the middle and upper school.

Finally, the Fund for Excellence is our way to ensure we aim our philanthropic efforts towards those

enhancements that have a direct impact on our programs, facilities and Missions-driven goals and

objectives. Supporting the Fund for Excellence secures the future of ISB and we are very grateful to all our

families who choose our school.

PHILANTHROPY AT ISB: GIVING AND VOLUNTEERING

THE ECONOMICS OF AN ISB EDUCATION

ISB is a private independent school and does not receive any direct funding from the American or

French governments. Like many independent schools in the United States, ISB depends on tax-

deductible donations to its annual fund. At ISB, we call this fund the ISB Fund For Excellence.

THE ISB FUND FOR EXCELLENCE

The ISB Fund For Excellence helps keep tuition at a competitive rate and ensure that ISB students and

faculty benefit directly from needed enhancements in our programs and facilities so that ISB may

maintain its unsurpassed quality of education. This fund is of critical importance to the school each year

in order to implement ISB’s mission of educating citizens of tomorrow. Your participation is

essential to the health and vitality of ISB, allowing the school to maintain its high standards and unique

educational experience. The community’s support of the ISB Fund For Excellence is a demonstration of

its commitment to ISB’s past, present and future.

VOLUNTEERING

Since 1962, at ISB, being a parent has meant belonging to a community of educators, mentors, leaders

and other parents who seek to offer our students the best opportunities for learning. We encourage

parents to get involved as volunteers in events, as chaperones, in the Parent-Teacher Organization

(PTO), school activities and as room parents. Some parents serve on the School’s governing board as

Trustees, some in committees of the board, some as representatives on the PTO Leadership Team.

Parents quickly realize that giving, in the form of money or time, brings great satisfaction, not only for

themselves, but also for their children who are happy to see their parents as active members of their

school.

LE COÛT D’UNE ÉDUCATION AU LIB

Le LIB est une école privée indépendante et ne reçoit pas de financement direct des gouvernements

américain ou français. Comme beaucoup d'écoles indépendantes aux États-Unis, pour son fonds

annuel, le LIB dépend de dons, déductibles d'impôt. Au LIB, ce fonds s’appelle le Fonds d’Excellence.

LE FONDS D’EXCELLENCE du LIB

Le Fonds d’Excellence nous permet de garder les frais de scolarité à un taux compétitif et d’assurer que

les étudiants et les professeurs du LIB bénéficient directement des améliorations nécessaires à nos

programmes et à nos installations, de sorte que le LIB puisse maintenir sa qualité inégalée en matière

d'éducation. Ce fonds est d’une importance cruciale pour l'école chaque année, puisqu’il nous sert à

remplir la mission du LIB : former les citoyens de demain. Votre participation est essentielle à la santé et

la vitalité du LIB, permettant à l'école de maintenir ses normes élevées et son expérience éducative

unique. Le soutien de la communauté du LIB au Fonds d’Excellence est une preuve de son

engagement au passé, au présent et à l’avenir de l’école.

BÉNÉVOLAT

Depuis 1962, être un parent du LIB signifie appartenir à une communauté d'éducateurs, de mentors, de

leaders et d’autres parents qui ont tous le même but : offrir à nos élèves le meilleur cadre

d’apprentissage possible. Nous encourageons les parents à participer en tant que bénévoles aux

événements et activités de l’école, comme membres de l’Organisation des Parents et des

Enseignants (le PTO), délégués de classe, accompagnateurs pour des sorties, etc... Certains parents

siègent au Conseil d'Administration ou sur un ou plusieurs de ses Comités, d’autres font partie de

l’équipe de Direction du PTO, etc... Les parents se rendent rapidement compte que donner, sous la

forme d'argent ou de temps apporte une véritable satisfaction, pour eux, et aussi pour leurs enfants qui

sont heureux et fiers de voir que leurs parents font partie de la vie de leur établissement scolaire.

WHY GIVE?

Your gift to the ISB Fund for Excellence, when added to those of the hundreds of other ISB donors, can have a

powerful and immediate impact on the School. Your participation encourages other members of our

community to give and helps ISB secure corporate donations. We ask that all families consider supporting the

ISB Fund for Excellence in a meaningful way. In general, the average family gift is $550. Your gift to the ISB Fund

for Excellence supports the people and programs that make ISB so special. This means talented teachers,

small classes, language resources, personal attention, and enhanced facilities.

During the past eight years, your donations also funded the new playground (2008), the math lab (2009), the

science lab (2010), the student lounge (2011), the media-center (2012), a new music room (2013), a bright and

contemporary lobby in Cambridge, and the continuation of the restoration of our historical Cambridge

building (consolidation of the north façade) as well as new floors and lighting for a more welcoming

Maternelle in Arlington (2014), and finally in the Summer of 2015, a new Faculty space in Cambridge, as well as

the introduction of new technologies and security locks in Maternelle.

Why doesn't ISB just raise tuition instead of

asking for donations?

Raising tuition to cover all of the costs of an ISB

education would limit the number of qualified

students who could afford to attend. Because ISB

believes in offering an education to all capable

students, we try to keep tuition as low as possible

and supplement enhancement costs with tax-

deductible donations.

We are only here for two years, why should we

give?

Donations received are put to use immediately at

ISB to help develop and enhance programs in our

current academic year.

Did you know your donation is a tax benefit?

All cash or securities contributions to ISB, a 501 ©

(3) nonprofit organization, are tax-deductible to

the extent allowed by law.

Pourquoi ne pas simplement augmenter les frais de

scolarité au lieu de faire appel aux dons ?

Augmenter les frais de scolarité pour couvrir la totalité des

coûts d'une éducation au LIB aurait pour conséquence de

limiter le nombre d'étudiants qualifiés lors des inscriptions.

Parce que le LIB veut offrir une éducation à tous les étudiants

qui en ont les capacités, nous essayons de garder les frais de

scolarité aussi bas que possible et de compléter le véritable

coût d’une année scolaire par des dons déductibles d’impôt.

Nous sommes ici pour deux ans seulement. Pourquoi

faire un don ?

Les dons reçus sont utilisés immédiatement pour développer et

INTRODUCTION OF NEW TECHNOLOGIES AND SECURITY LOCKS /

INTRODUCTION DE NOUVELLES TECHNOLOGIES ET INSTALLATION DE VERROUS (8% of the received funds / 8% des fonds reçus)

During the summer 2015, the faculty room was renovated. Although it was not possible to expand the

physical space, our architect Maryann Thompson designed a way to reuse the space, making it more

efficient, and helpful to all the teachers. This was a significant renovation that made the room more useful

and comfortable for the many people who depend on it daily.

All faculty and staff are greatly appreciative of the donations you were able to make towards this project.

Pendant l’été 2015, la Salle des Professeurs a été rénovée. Bien qu'il n'ait pas été possible d'agrandir cet

espace, notre architecte Maryann Thompson a imaginé une façon de l’agencer, le rendant plus adéquat

pour tous les enseignants. La reconfiguration de cet espace est significative et améliore considérablement

le quotidien des nombreuses personnes qui l'utilisent chaque jour.

Tous les professeurs et le personnel du LIB vous sont très reconnaissants pour les dons que vous avez été en

mesure de faire pour ce projet. MERCI.

Après une évaluation minutieuse des besoins de la maternelle en nouvelles

technologies, différentes options ont été testées, et la Maternelle a décidé

d'introduire des iPads dans toutes les classes et pour son programme périscolaire.

Vos dons au Fonds d’Excellence du LIB ont permis ces acquisitions, sachant qu’un

iPad ne remplacera jamais un enseignant. Mais à chaque époque correspond de

nouveaux outils, qu’il faut apprendre à utiliser.

Le LIB a également investi dans de nouveaux verrous pour mieux sécuriser le bâtiment de la maternelle.

Un grand nombre des améliorations apportées à notre école est le résultat de la générosité des parents du

LIB depuis sa création, en 1962. Gardons cette tradition de générosité bien vivante !

After carefully evaluating the needs at the Maternelle for new technology, various options were tested and

the decision was made to introduce iPads in each class and in the afterschool program. Donations to the

ISB Fund for Excellence made this acquisition possible. While we know that an iPad will never replace a

teacher, as times change and new tools are introduced, we all need to learn how to use them.

ISB also invested in new security locks to increase the safety of the Maternelle building.

Many of the improvements at our school have been the result of the generosity of ISB parents since the

school was created in 1962. Let’s keep that tradition alive!

WHAT A SUCCESS! THANK YOU!

The International School of Boston would like to applaud

the incredible Gala 2016 team, who brought creative

imagination, and strategic vision to produce a

spectacular Odyssey Benefit Gala in support of every

student’s education at ISB.

Thank you to the 2016 Gala Committee, to the ISB Board of Trustees for their

support and above all, thank you to all of you parents, volunteers, friends,

supporters, donors, alumni, advertisers, sponsors, and supporters. It was an

This addition to our campus will be transformative, not only for the Lower School as we look to moving parts

of the Upper Elementary to the Convent beginning in September 2017, but also for the creation of new

opportunities as we re-imagine the spaces in the main building for the Middle and Upper Schools.

With this transformed facility, the School will be able to make the necessary improvements that will benefit

our students at ISB both now and well into the future.

Cette addition à notre campus sera significative,

non seulement pour l’Élémentaire, puisque nous

envisageons de déplacer au Couvent les grandes

classes à l’automne 2017, mais aussi pour le Collège

et le Lycée en créant de nouvelles opportunités,

alors que nous allons repenser les espaces du

bâtiment principal.

La transformation de ce bâtiment permettra à notre

École d’effectuer les améliorations indispensables,

qui bénéficieront aux élèves du LIB, aussi bien

aujourd’hui que dans les années à venir.

Depuis de nombreuses années, l’Organisation des

Parents et des Enseignants (le PTO du LIB) collecte

des fonds avec pour double objectif de financer le

programme d’enrichissement culturel pour tous les

élèves du LIB et organiser des événements qui créent

et construisent des liens forts au sein de la

communauté de l’école.

Le programme d'enrichissement culturel consiste

en une série, tout au long de l’année, d’ateliers et de

productions financés par le PTO et conçus pour

enrichir la vie des élèves du LIB, de la maternelle à la

terminale.

For many years now, the ISB Parent-Teacher

Organization (ISB PTO) has been raising money

with goals of funding enrichment programs for all

students at ISB, as well as organizing events to

create and build strong links within the school

community.

The enrichment programs are a year-long series of

PTO-funded workshops and productions designed

to enrich the lives of ISB students, from Maternelle

L’AIDE FINANCIÈRE EN 2015-2016

Durant l’année scolaire 2015-2016, le Lycée International de Boston a consacré 7% de son budget à

l’aide financière directe aux familles, réduisant ainsi le coût de la scolarité pour 106 élèves avec un

budget total de 989 819 $.

Le gouvernement français a accordé une aide (bourses scolaires) d’un montant total de 932 166 $ à

49 élèves du LIB.

Ainsi, grâce aux bourses scolaires françaises et à l’aide financière de l’école, près de 22 % des

élèves scolarisés au LIB ont reçu un soutien financier.

Le Lycée International de Boston remercie sincèrement le gouvernement français et le Consulat

Général de France à Boston pour leur soutien, ainsi que les familles et les entreprises qui ont

contribué au Fonds d’Aide Financière du LIB.

FINANCIAL AID IN 2015-2016

During the school year 2015-2016, the International School of Boston spent 7% of its budget to provide

direct financial assistance to families, thus reducing the tuition for 106 students, with a total budget of

$989,819.

The French government granted a total of $932,166 in inancial aid to 49 students of ISB during that

year.

Thus, thanks to their assistance and the school, a round 22% of our ISB students received financial

support.

The International School of Boston is deeply grateful to the French government and the Consulate

General of France in Boston for their support and very thankful to families and companies who

Not only did all 22 of our Seniors pass the French Baccalauréat, they all passed with

honors (mention). This is a great achievement for the class as a whole (and their

teachers!), with 41% receiving highest honors ("mention Très Bien"), 36% receiving high honors ("mention

Bien") and 23% obtaining honors ("mention Assez Bien"). These are our best results ever, and we

congratulate the students on their superb record.

Nos 22 élèves de Terminale ont non seulement tous eu leur baccalauréat, mais ils l'ont tous eu avec

"mention". C'est un très bon résultat pour les élèves (et leurs professeurs !) de la filière française : 41% des

élèves ont obtenu une mention Très Bien, 36% une mention Bien, et 23% une mention Assez Bien.

Il s'agit des meilleurs résultats de toute l'histoire du LIB. Nous félicitons tous les élèves pour ces excellent

résultats.

Les 18 étudiants du programme menant au diplôme du Baccalauréat International ont atteint un taux de

réussite de 100% et ce sont les meilleurs résultats depuis la création de ce programme au LIB, il y a 11 ans. La

moyenne de la classe (34) est nettement supérieure à la moyenne mondiale (29). 18% de nos étudiants ont

obtenu une note de 40, la note maximale étant de 42, ce qui est sans précédent. Cette note est atteinte

par seulement la moitié des 1% des candidats du monde entier, une année où le LIB a le plus d’élèves dans

cette filière depuis que le IB a été créé au LIB.

89% de nos élèves ont reçu un diplôme bilingue, ce qui requiert de réussir les cours de littérature avancée

dans deux langues, ou, pour ceux qui apprennent l’anglais en deuxième langue, réussir un cours de

littérature avancée dans leur première langue et tous les autres cours en anglais. Cette année, nos élèves

ont associé l’anglais au français, au chinois ou à l’allemand.

! 23 INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE (IB)

The 18 students in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program achieved a passing rate of 100%

and the results were the strongest since the creation of the IB at ISB, 11 years ago. The class

average for students earning the diploma was 34, well above the world average of 29. An

unprecedented 18% of our students attained a score of 40 or above, with a top score of 42. That score

is achieved by .5 of 1% of candidates in the world in a year that saw the highest student numbers since

the IB was created.

An impressive 89% percent of our students obtained a bilingual diploma, which requires successfully

passing advanced literature classes in two languages or, for second language learners of English,

successfully passing an advanced literature course in their first language and all other courses in

English. This year, students paired English with French, Chinese, and German.

This group has been here straight through, from Maternelle to Grade 12 (Mathias left for a few years but

then came back in eleventh grade to do the IB Diploma. Rebecca Zama also

belongs to this group but is absent from the picture). They are what American schools often

affectionately call "LIFERS," a term that may not translate so well into French.

Ce groupe d’élèves a fait toute sa scolarité au LIB, de la Maternelle à la Terminale (sauf

Mathias qui est parti pour quelques années, mais qui est revenu en première pour faire le diplôme IB.

ZELDA WANSTOK attended ISB from 9th grade to 12th grade and received her French

Baccalaureate (ES) in 2012. Through her years at ISB, it became the place and

community that allowed her and challenged her to learn English, perform on stage, and

work hard, as well as create important friendships.

After high school, Zelda moved to New York City to attend Barnard College where she

graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies and a minor in Psychology

in May 2015.

Since graduating, Zelda has moved to Brooklyn and has been working as a Case Manager for a non profit

organization providing services to domestic violence and sex trafficking survivors called “Sanctuary for

Families”.

When not at work, you can find Zelda exploring the city, cooking, reading, watching TV shows, babysitting,

hanging out with friends, or taking pictures, and maybe in a year or so attending graduate school!

ZELDA WANSTOK a étudié au LIB de la 3ème à la Terminale et a obtenu son baccalauréat français

en 2012 (ES). Le LIB est devenu au fil des ans le lieu et la communauté qui lui ont permis et l’ont poussée à

apprendre l’anglais, monter sur scène, travailler dur et créer des amities fortes.

Après le lycée, Zelda a déménagé à New York pour étudier à “Barnard College”, où elle a obtenu un

diplôme en “Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies” avec une sous-dominante en psychologie en mai

2015.

Depuis, Zelda a déménagé à Brooklyn et a travaillé en tant que gestionnaire de cas pour une organisation

à but non lucratif fournissant des services aux survivants de violences domestiques et de trafic sexuel :

“Sanctuary for Families”.
