Dear Colleague:

We invite you to attend “The 23rd Annual NASPGHAN Meeting and 11th Year of Partnership with CDHNF” to be held in the lively city of New Orleans, Louisiana from Wednesday, October 20—Sunday, October 24, 2010. The meeting will begin Wednesday with a Single Topic Course on Effective Pediatric Clinical Trials in Gastrointestinal,Hepatobiliary, and Pancreatic Disease and Nutrition, directed by Jim Heubi and Stephen Guthery. This long-awaited coursewill utilize internationally recognized speakers from the FDA, NIDDK, academic, private practice and pharma who willoutline key issues and strategies to enable us all to do a better job in developing trials in all aspects of our field.

The Postgraduate Course, ably directed by John Pohl and Sandeep Gupta, will begin 8am Thursday, October 21 and will include 5 modules: Manometry, Autoimmune GI Disease, The Upper GI Bleed, the Old and New Liver, and Quality Improvement in IBD, as well as 9 Learning Luncheons.

The Annual Meeting proper will begin at 5pm Thursday evening with a Welcome Reception and Poster Session I. Therewill be a total of 15 Meet the Professor Breakfasts Friday and Saturday morning. It is our great pleasure to announce that the Keynote Speaker Friday morning will be Renee R. Jenkins, MD, FAAP, Past President of the American Academy of Pediatrics and Professor of Pediatrics, Howard University School of Medicine, who will provide her very unique perspective on healthcare reform (as of October 2010!). Drs. Sibley and Balistreri will present their very popular Basic and Clinical Science, Year in Review session. An outstanding and diverse faculty has been assembled to lead usthrough 4 Concurrent Sessions – I. “Virtual IBD I” or Cholestasis; II. “Virtual IBD II” or Nutritional Therapies; III. MucosalImmunology or Non-B Hepatitis; and IV. Uses and Abuses of GI diets or Uses and Abuses of GI drugs. The Research Committee has planned multiple sessions of abstr act presentation and a state of the art symposium.

Other special features include Hands-On Endoscopy session and a new Hands-On Motility session. Also new this year is more formal participation by LASPGHAN members who are planning some concurrent sessions en espanol. At the Business Luncheon on Saturday we have the chance to hear Marc Rhoads, MD, share his experiences on the challengesof practicing pediatric gastroenterology in the middle of Hurricane Katrina and Maria Oliva-Hemker MD, Chair of the Advocacy Committee, will share with us the winds of Washington and the opportunities for a role of NASPGHAN membersin public policy as it affects our patients and our profession. Saturday evening we’ll enjoy live New Orleans (danceable!)jazz from the rooftop of the Sheraton. The meeting will conclude with a Professional Development Workshop led by Mitch Shub on Sunday morning.

See you in NOLA!
