Transcript of Annual Letter from Member Organizations EarthShare NC...
THEY SAY IF you ever look back it should only be to see how far you have come. With that in mind, as we celebrate a quarter of a century of EarthShare NC’s work to strengthen the conservation movement, let’s briefly look back on how far we’ve come:
We celebrate the coalition’s achievements in elevating conservation as an issue of importance to individuals and NC businesses, promoting the work of 43 NC based conservation nonprofits, introducing over 10,000 people to programs to protect our air, land, water and wildlife, and raising more than $9.4 million in employee pledges to support this work.
We celebrate the conservation victories made possible due to NC’s strong nonprofit community: creation of the Clean Water Management Trust Fund in 1996 and passage of the groundbreaking Clean Smokestacks bill in 2002, removal of pollution sources from our rivers and beaches, permanent protection of forests, farmland, and natural ar-eas that make NC special, and connecting countless children with the experiences that plant the seeds for the future leaders of the conservation movement. The list goes on.
And finally, we celebrate EarthShare NC’s innovation to expand the ways in which we fulfill our mission. From the Corporate Earth Day Events Program to the Green Team Roundtable, we are bringing the business and nonprofit communities together around their shared interest in keeping NC a thriving place to live and work—new connections that lead to deeper engagement in conservation solutions.
Now let’s focus on the future. As we begin our next 25 years we are inspired to see NC businesses prioritizing the health of our natural resources. We look forward to building strong new partnerships and programs to continue our mission and strengthen the conservation community.

Companies Support Healthy Communities
Corporate Forums in Charlotte, Greensboro INCREASINGLY, business and conservation leaders agree that North Carolina’s economic prosperity and favorable business cli-mate rely on stewardship of natural resources. Corporate Forums provide a platform to discuss how businesses and nonprofits can work together to keep NC a thriving place to live and work.
The 2016 Forums held in Charlotte and Greensboro highlighted the value of business partnerships to conservation solutions and featured Will Teichman, Senior Director of Strategic Operations at Kimco Realty, and Dr. Andrew Brod, Senior Research Fellow with the Bryan School of Business & Economics at UNC-Greensboro.
BUSINESSES are making a positive impact on the health of their communities in partnership with EarthShare NC. They are convening to discuss natural resource health and a thriving economy, empowering employees to invest in conservation nonprofits, and providing education and hands-on volunteering and networking experiences that deepen community connections.
IN APRIL 2016, 275 employees from 30 Charlotte and Triangle businesses took part in the Corporate Earth Day Events Program to demonstrate support for conservation and celebrate Earth Day. Employee teams completed on-the-ground conservation projects from blazing a section of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail to building pollinator gardens. They gathered at the end of the day for a celebration and networking event with other employee teams. Business and nonprofit leaders attended the Earth Day Breakfast to celebrate the positive impact that businesses are making on their communities.
SENSUS and TIAA joined the list of com-panies who are empowering employees to learn about and support conservation at work. EarthShare NC workplace giving and engagement programs connect employees with the conservation goals of the compa-ny, foster team building, and make a direct impact by funding conservation nonprofits.
Congratulations to Sensus for receiving the 2016 Corporate
