I have the pleasure to present our Annual Report 2018 to the development partners, government officials and all well-wishers who stayed with us during the journey.

SUS is moving forward through an integrated, participatory and rights-based approach by accelerating and widening its endeavors. The development partners provided their hands of cooperation for achieving goal and objectives of respec-tive programs. At the same time, SUS tried to keep up donors’ confidence with its efficiency and sincerity. Through learning by doing process, SUS has devel-oped its capacity to plan and implement effective development programs with the participation of people. SUS has shared its experiences, learning, ideas and views with relevant stakeholders and develop-ment partners as well. SUS has strength-ened up relationship with government as well as like-minded institutions through networking and advocacy.

SUS has brought more dimensions in its programs. People are now using different government opportunities. SUS has given more priority to the ultra-poor, ethnic minorities, pregnant mothers, children, adolescents and disables. More victims are coming to SUS for getting legal supports.

Due to reducing funding trends in Bangla-desh, SUS like others has to cut down its manpower as well as coverage in 2018.

SUS has faced many challenges in continuing its development efforts. During 2018, a new project has been incorporated with our integrated package program and three projects have been phased out as well. During the period, we have reviewed strategic plan of 2016-2020 and have strived to provide our highest possible services to the distressed people of our working area. We have prepared and updated different manuals, guidelines and policies.

I express my thanks and gratitude to our development partners, the government of Bangladesh along with relevant depart-ments, local administration, different professionals as well as program partici-pants for their cooperation, coordination and contribution.

Thanks are rightly due for the members of SUS general committee and executive committee for their timely advices and directions. Finally, I offer my heartfelt thanks to the colleagues who worked hard to make the initiatives worthy and mean-ingful.

We look forward to work and move together with a view to establish a society with dignity and justice.

Union Network Group (UNG) is trying to form a solidarity platform for social movement regarding women empow-erment issues. They are working to ensure the gender responsive salishi in their locality so that women can get proper justice. In the project related Union Parishad, Women friendly budget has been prepared through the advocacy of UNG. They are attending coordination meeting of Union Pari-shad regularly and 30 women have been enrolled under the social safety-net program. On the other hand, 5.6% group members know about the Women in Development (WID), Con-vention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) and National Women Policy. By the initiative of WID committee, government officials have been activated to establish women rights. 16 days campaign to stop violence against women has been observed jointly (GO-NGO) in differ-ent places At this time, they stopped 03 child marriages in the project working area. Project arranged a dialogue with police administration in Abu Abbas College in Netrakona district town and Kendua degree collage regarding the law and order situation inside and outside of the college where student forum members under women empow-erment project attended and they raised different questions on security issues in front of district Police Super.

As a result, Police Super instantly took initiative and solved the problem that student raised. After this dialogue, girls’ students felt comfort and they are coming to the college fear-lessly. A few months later, Women Empowerment Project also arranged a follow-up dialogue session with district Police Super. So that no violence happened in 2018 during student admission time, which was a big problem of this college. Encouragement of women leaders has been increased for getting rewards of their development works. Leaders may work properly if they have simple booklet on laws and rights. If the religious leaders become aware about state laws, it would be helpful to implement the women rights project. If we involve religious leaders with different train-ing and workshop; their thoughts will be changed positively.

Group savings activities will be strengthenedthrough the willing force of Village Women Group members. During preparation of yearly action plan, weather condi-tion and year ending time should be considered.

During this period, we have faced some unwanted threats from religious activists and political groups. Drug dealing and gambling problems have been reduced by the initiative of group members, local com-munity, local leaders and strong initiative of govern-ment. The project is working to create a situation, where the people of the society can think that women’s thought is valuable, they have their own preferences, they have rights to control their own lives and they can go outside freely and fearlessly for their own needs.
