SUNDAY SCHOOL WELCOME to ALDERSGATE We’re delighted to have you with us today! Our desire is that you sense the love of Jesus during your time here and that you discover how much God values you. If we can serve you in any way, please feel free to call on us. Our Identity/Vision We exist to: “Reach with the Heart of God for the Lives of our community!” Our Mission/Purpose Gathered to Grow - Scattered to Sow: “To reach and grow disciples in Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world!” Want to Make a Request or Receive Ministry Information? Please use the Communication Card to provide or change your contact information and/or to request information about any aspect of church life at Aldersgate. Just drop it in the offering plate, leave it at the Welcome Center, or bring it to the church office. Announcements WUW Winter Session What’s Up Wednesday winter session will begin on January 13, 2016 and run through April 6th. Included in the bulletin is a class selection form. Please mark the class you are interested in and return it via the offering or bring it to the church office no later than January 1st for January start classes. This will enable us plenty of time to order the materials needed. This is a great way to start off your New Year! We hope to see you here!! Whole Church Study Beginning the week of February 21st we will be launching a study for the whole church to participate in. We are asking existing small groups to participate and we will also be setting up other small groups to meet and use the study. It will also be offered during WUW. The study is a John Ortberg study called “When the Game is Over It All Goes Back in the Box.” If you are interested in being part of a small group for this study, or perhaps would be willing to facilitate a group, please make sure to fill out your information on the registration form found in your bulletin. Each person should fill out their own form so we have accurate records of everyone who wishes to participate and to help us insure we order enough materials. Each group will need a DVD as well as each person will need a participant’s guide, so accuracy and communication are important. Girlfriends in God Girlfriends in God will be kicking off new winter Bible Studies January 5 at 9:15 in room 207 with a brunch (bring your favorite dish, if able). Come join us for a little fellowship and a chance to look at the studies we will be offering this winter. The two studies being offered are: I AM NOT BUT I KNOW I AM by Louie Giglio God is looking for ordinary people to play significant roles in His story. Our God is more expansive and powerful than we could ever imagine, the all-mighty creator of galaxies beyond our reach. But He is also the loving creator who has formed and fashioned you. Yet, as valuable as you are to Him, God's best for your life is to invite you into a story that is all about Him. In this intensely personal and highly motivating book, bestselling author, pastor, and Passion founder Louie Giglio shows you how to embrace your "smallness" in light of God's greatness - and live with more meaning than you have ever dreamed possible. I am not... but God knows my name. I am not... but He has pursued me in His love. I am not... but I know the Creator of the universe. I am not, but I know I AM! Now updated with all new content to encourage you in your quest to live for what matters most. This is a 6 week study. Facilitator Jen Stumbaugh, [email protected] & Michelle Myers Children of the Day by Beth Moore Is family life a challenge? Is work driving you crazy? Do you know God has a purpose for your life, but you can't figure out what it is? Know that your circumstances are not coincidental. And God's timing is impeccable. Join Beth Moore on the Thessalonian shores as she walks you through the truth of each verse of 1 and 2 Thessalonians. In this study, you'll face crises, afflictions, relationships, doubts, concerns, and fears. Find encouragement for living the Christian life now and hope for when Christ returns. This is a 9-16 week study. The exact length will be decided by the group within the first two weeks. Facilitator Tricia Dovenspike [email protected] Childcare is provided. If you are interested in participating in one of these studies, but can't attend the brunch, please contact the appropriate facilitator. ADVENT STUDY for ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL The adult Sunday School class will be doing an advent study, The Christmas Experience by Kyle Idleman, November 29 through January 10. The Christmas Experience enables participants to find themselves in the Christmas story and learn that what happened then changes everything now. We meet in room 101. Facilitator: Hans Dovenspike, [email protected] Remember the GIANT Gift Card Program/Debt Reduction Opportunity ! There's been an uptick in purchase and use of the Giant gift cards through Aldersgate Church. Please remember that with every $100 in gift cards purchased, AUMC receives $5 (5% of total purchases) back that is used against our building debt/principal payment on the loan. We're chipping away at it, andtrulyevery bit helps. If just 75 households purchase $100 in gift cards each month (toward your own use for groceries and/or gas), that would generate $4,500 back to AUMC toward loan reduction! If 75 households purchased $100 weekly for gas/food consumption in their household, that would equate to $19,500 per year coming back to AUMC for debt reduction! This is not to endorse a particular business, but rather to celebrate an avenue given to us by GIANT foods. It costs us nothing to participate, and capitalizes on our ongoing food and gas usage needs to benefit our faith community's debt reduction efforts. Cards typically are available on the first and third Sundays outside the Family Life Center. We are open to exploring other times for purchase, if persons come forward to assist. Checks may be made payable to AUMC, marking the memo as "GIANT cards." Please remember that these purchases do not constitute gifts or tithes and offerings to the ministry. The work is spread between two shifts, each 1.5 to 2 hours long. The early shift ends at 9:30 and the later shift begins at 10:30. This enables workers to attend the service of their choice. Aldersgate Church A United Methodist Congregation

“Reaching with the Heart of God for the Lives of Our Community”

December 27, 2015

In the Beginning Was The Word

We Gather And Profess the Faith! Leader: We believe in the Eternal God.

People: In whose mind was born the plan of salvation; In whose heart was born a love for humankind.

Leader: We believe in the Incarnate God.

People: Born in humble station – Amid the lowing animals. A light in darkness. The promise of hope to the world.

Leader: We believe in the Inspiring God.

People: Bringing life to the womb of Mary – Giving a song to the angel chorus. Proclaiming Good News to the shepherds of Bethlehem.

Leader: We believe in the God who was, who is and who ever shall be!

People: The same yesterday, today and forever! God before Bethlehem. God at Bethlehem. God beyond Bethlehem.

All: God, Who is Now and Forever, world without end. Amen.

Worship in Song

The Prayers of God’s People

The Gospel: John 1:6-9 – There was a man sent from God, whose name

was John. He came as a witness to testify to the light, so that all might believe through him. He himself was not the light, but he came to testify to the light.

The true light, which enlightens everyone, was coming into the world.

The Epistle Lesson: 1 Timothy 6:11-16 The Voice (2012, Thomas Nelson Pub.) Timothy, don’t let this happen to you — run away from these things! You are a man of God.

Your quest is for justice, godliness, faithfulness, love, perseverance, and gentleness. Fight the good fight of the faith! Cling to the eternal life you were called to when you

confessed the good confession before witnesses. Before God — the life-giving Creator of all things — and Jesus the Anointed, our Liberating King, who made the

good confession to Pontius Pilate, I urge you: Keep His commandment. Have a spotless, indisputable record until our Lord Jesus the Anointed appears to set this world straight.

In His own perfect time, He will come — blessed is the only Sovereign, the King of kings, and the Lord of lords. He alone possesses immortality; He makes His home in matchless,

blinding, brilliant light that no one can approach — no mortal has ever even seen Him, and no human can. So let it be that all honor and eternal power are His. Amen.

The Message: Can Jesus Get a Witness?
