It was the first animal control law in the U.S.1911 – In Europe, International Women’s Day was celebrated for the first time.1965 – About 3,500 U.S. Marines landed in South Vietnam. They were the first combat troops to arrive there.
Crayola ColorCycleGrissom Patriots are collecting used markers and
highlighters (any brand) to be converted into clean fuel. This fuel can be used to power vehicles, heat
homes, cook meals and more! Green collection boxes will be in each classroom and on the bench outside
the Commons. The program can keep tons of plastic out of landfills each year. Remember, don’t throw out
that used marker – ColorCycle it!

Track TryoutsTrack season will soon be here! Tryouts will be held on
Tuesday, March 19th, and Wednesday, March 20th, from 3:15-4:30 for all runners. Shot put and discus tryouts will be held Thursday, March 21st from 3:15-4:30. Permission slips are in the rack outside the Main Office and are due to Mrs. Ryan, Mr. Rumbaugh, Ms. Senkpeil or Ms. Jordan by Monday,
March 18th.

PTO Treat Day
Monday is PTO Treat Day!
IGSMA District ContestOur district bands will perform at the
IGSMA District Contest at Tinley Central Middle School on Saturday. The Cadet Band performs at 9:30 am, the Concert
Band at 10:15, and the Symphonic Band at 11:00. Come out and support our District
140 musicians!
ChorusChorus members rehearse every
Monday and Thursday after school in the Band room.
Boys Soccer TryoutsTryouts for boys soccer will be held on Tuesday, March 12th at
Millennium from 3:30-5:00. There is a bus available to Millennium,
but transportation home is required. Permission forms are
available outside the Main Office, and are due TODAY!
Media Center NewsToday is the last day to take Rebecca Caudill
tests this year (for prizes).Anyone passing three tests can attend the
Battle of the Books!
P.E. News
All P.E. classes will be taking the hockey test on Wednesday, March
13th.
Ronald McDonald House CharitiesGrissom is once again collecting pop tabs to benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities! The pop tabs are recycled and sold for scrap metal. Last year, Ronald McDonald House
Charities of Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana raised more than $40,000 from this program. There is a collection box on the bench outside
the Commons for your donations.
Student SupportStudent Support is held in the Media Center before school every day from 8:00 – 8:35 and after school Monday through Thursday from 3:10 - 4:05.
Please be sure to bring your work with you! You will need to sign in and stay
the entire time. If you are a bus rider, please remember to sign up for the
activity bus that day!
Water Bottle Filling Station Challenge
Last year Grissom Patriots saved 10,263 plastic water bottles from ending up in landfills by using the
water bottle filling stations throughout the building. So far this year, we have saved 9,399bottles! Please remember to use these instead of plastic bottles!
