Help Breaks Through
Luke 1:5-25, 57-66
“Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the great and awesome day of the LORD comes. And he will turn the hearts of fathers to their children and the hearts of children to their fathers, lest I come and strike the land with a decree of utter destruction.” Malachi 4:5-6 (ESV)
Then Abraham fell on his face and laughed and said to himself, “Shall a child be born to a man who is a hundred years old? Shall Sarah, who is ninety years old, bear a child?” Genesis 17:17 (ESV)
And Mary said to the angel, “How will this be, since I am a virgin?” Luke 1:34 (ESV)
_________ _____ ___ ________ through bad times.
Then Job arose and tore his robe and shaved his head and fell on the ground and worshiped. And he said, “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return. The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.” … “Shall we receive good from God, and shall we not receive evil?” In all this Job did not sin with his lips. Job 1:20-21, 2:10b (ESV)
________ ______ _____ ________ to get your attention.
And [the LORD] said, “Go out and stand on the mount before the LORD.” And behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind tore the mountains and broke in pieces the rocks before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind. And after the wind an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake. And after the earthquake a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire the sound of a low whisper. And when Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his cloak and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave. And behold, there came a voice to him and said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” 1 Kings 19:11-13 (ESV)
Trust God to work ___ _____ _____ _____ _____ ____.
Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. Isaiah 7:14 (ESV)
And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28 (ESV)
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 (ESV)
CONNECT QUESTIONS
Connect Groups do not meet this week. These questions are given to encourage you to take “next steps” based on this morning’s scriptures and sermon. Use them as discussion starters with family or friends, or use them for personal reflection.
When life isn’t going your way, is your first response to turn to God or
away from God? Give an example.
What situations make it most likely that you will hear God? What
makes hearing difficult? Do your answers suggest any changes that
would be helpful to put in place in your daily life?
List a few examples of times when God worked in ways that were
different from your ideas or expectations. How do you know when God
is finished working in a situation?
We’re glad you are here today! Please fill out a Communication Card (located in the folders in front of you) and place it in the offering plate later in the service.
This card helps us get to know you and minister to you. Visit our Welcome Table in the back foyer for church information.
The Prayer Request Book and Bibles are located
at the back of the sanctuary.
