BACKGROUND• Anna-Lou “Annie” Leibovitz was born on October 2, 1949 in

Waterbury, Connecticut.

• Due to her father being in the U.S. Air force, her family moved frequently.

• She took her first pictures when her father was stationed in the Philippines during the Vietnam war.

• In high school she became interested in various artistic classes, and began to write and play music.

• She attended the San Francisco Art Institute, where she studied painting.

• After taking a night class in photography, she decides to change her major from painting to photography.

Annie Leibovitz Photography• She is an American portrait photographer, and is known for

taking photographs of celebrities.

• She has over 40 years of experience, and since then has perfected her work over the years.

• Her photos capture, a person’s style and characters in a peculiar way.

• She likes working with bold unexpected colors and poses.

• Her photos are crazy and provocative, she is not afraid of showing things that no one else wants to.

• At the end of the day she can give you a picture no one else can.

• 1970- Starts a career as a photographer for Rolling Stone magazine.

• 1973 –Becomes Rolling Stone’s chief photographer

• 1983- Vanity Fair asks Leibovitz to contribute to a cover of Vanity Fair; she beings working for Vanity Fair.

• 1984- Named “Photographer of the Year” by the American Society of Magazine photographers.

• 1998- She begins working for Vogue.

• 2000- Named a Living Legend by the Library of Congress, receives Barnard College Medal of Distinction.

• 2005- American Society of Magazine editors chooses covers taken by Leibovitz as No.1 and No. 2 in the list of top 40 magazine covers of the past 40 years.
