Roof Coating Industry• Born in Australia!
• Fastest growing home improvement business in the UK
• Every tile has a coating
• The average lifespan of a manufactured coated tile is between 10 and 20 years
mac1030 Anglia Roofing Solutions presenter.indd 2 8/10/09 11:45:34
Why concrete roof tiles?• Post war housing boom
• Natural slate finite resource
• Cheaper
• Much faster to lay
• Less skilled labour
• Bright range of new colours fitted architects modern designs for Britain’s new suburbs
mac1030 Anglia Roofing Solutions presenter.indd 3 8/10/09 11:45:36
Why roofs deteriorate• Rain - penetrates tile surface
• Frost - Trapped moisture freezes, expands and cracks tile surface
• Sun - U.V degrades original protective coating
• Moss & Mould growth
• Porous tiles
It’s a vicious circle...
Cracks
Lichen
Moss
mac1030 Anglia Roofing Solutions presenter.indd 4 8/10/09 11:45:37
Structural implicationsOnce porous, the roof absorbs moisture like a sponge to an astonishing extent. It has been estimated in some cases that the loading on roof trusses may increase by up to 50% when a porous roof is fully saturated.
In extreme cases ‘bowing’ in the roof may be observed. The increased stress on the building structure is obvious as it is not designed to cope with this unwelcome additional loading.
Coated tile (repels water)
Untreated tile (saturated)
mac1030 Anglia Roofing Solutions presenter.indd 5 8/10/09 11:45:37
Drainage problemsUnsightly organic growth also causes severe problems with gutters and down pipes.
During heavy rain debris is washed into the gutters and valleys, encouraging water to pond, overflow and block downspouts in turn causing lateral penetrating damp.
Unsightly moss growth
Moss blocking drainage
Saturated tilesThe damp roof typically becomes a magnet for moss, mould and lichen. Not only do these retain further moisture, fuelling the problems previously described, but they really drag down the appearance of a property.

Re-roof
For:
• Solves the leaks
• Looks great
• Adds value
Against:
• Expensive
• Disturbs roof sub-structure
• Disruptive - may take weeks
• Environmental concerns
• Land fill
• Concrete production is carbon intensive
mac1030 Anglia Roofing Solutions presenter.indd 8 8/10/09 11:45:40
Repair
For:
• Solves leak in specific area
• Inexpensive
• Quick
Against:
• Temporary
• Still aesthetically untidy

Repair and clean
For:
• Solves leak in specific area
• Inexpensive
• Improved appearance
Against:
• Further damage to tiles - Removes water repellent - Exacerbates absorbency
• Still aesthetically untidy - Replacement tiles don’t match - Old roofs can appear ‘blotchy’
mac1030 Anglia Roofing Solutions presenter.indd 10 8/10/09 11:45:42
Repair, clean and re-coat
For:
• Solves leaks in specific areas.
• Relatively in-expensive
• Stunning new-roof appearance
• Environmentally sound - roof tiles effectively recycled
• Minimal disruption
• Factory spec coating
Against:
• Cowboy operators

4. Clean Roof Thoroughly• Pressure wash
• Ridge down - never up under tiles
• Take care not to damage tiles
• On fragile roofs work from roof ladders to spread your weight
• Use stiff bristle wire brush on stubborn contaminants
• Ensure roof is free from all traces of organic growth/contamination
• Remove debris from gutters
• Leave to dry out
mac1030 Anglia Roofing Solutions presenter.indd 13 8/10/09 11:45:45
5. Biocide treatment• Spray the roof with biocide
• Kills latent moss/lichen/mould
• Prevents re-growth under the coating
6. Prepare for coating• Is roof dry?
• Weather forecast?
• Mask off skylights, sun pipes, lead valleys etc.
• Remove cars from vicinity
• Assess general ‘spray drift’ risk
mac1030 Anglia Roofing Solutions presenter.indd 14 8/10/09 11:45:46
7. First coat ‘Kolourseal’• Check the coating containers - all same colour and
batch number?
• Record batch numbers
• Mix coating thoroughly (power paddle is best)
• If desired ‘let down’ first coat with 5 to 10% clean water - mix thoroughly
• Begin by ‘cutting in’ edges
• In-fill with spray gun using broad, even sweeps
8. Second coat• Is the first coat dry?
• Apply undiluted and again apply evenly to the entire roof
• Do not allow the coating to run
mac1030 Anglia Roofing Solutions presenter.indd 15 8/10/09 11:45:47
9. Clear up• Remove any masking
• Take away empty coating tubs & other rubbish
• Clean up any spilt material and generally leave site clean & tidy
10. Hand over• If possible show the client the job before you
leave the site.
• Give them opportunity to give you feedback. It’s easier to sort problems out there and then than have to go back!
mac1030 Anglia Roofing Solutions presenter.indd 16 8/10/09 11:45:48
Coatings‘Kolourseal’ forms intensely durable skin bonded to the tile surface.
• Waterproof
• Decorative
• Solid Colours
Water repellents• ‘Superseal’ penetrates into the
surface but leaves no visible finish
• Waterproof (designed for vertical application to walls)
• Non-decorative
• Many people are used to the faded appearance of their roof and are uncomfortable with the concept of re-coating. For the most part they don’t realise that their tiles had a coloured factory finish when the roof was first built!
Coatings or Water repellents?

Kolourseal Roof Paint Kolourseal roof paint, is a range of advanced 10 year polymer roof coatings developed specifically for painting roof tiles, roof sheets and other roofing materials.
Kolourseal roof coatings act as a roof tile sealer and colour restoration product in a single treatment. Formulated using premium grade UV light-fast dyes, Kolourseal re-seals porous clay and concrete roof tiles and adds spectacular depth of colour to all kinds of roofing materials including concrete, clay, metal and even asbestos roof materials.
Developed at our Lakeland factory for the worst of the British climate, Kolourseal roof coatings are designed for a 10 year life, and set new standards in severe weather protection and should not be confused with cheaper roofing restoration products.
mac1030 Anglia Roofing Solutions presenter WORD DOCS.indd 5 8/10/09 11:53:45
Sun, wind, rain and frost all conspire to fade the original vibrant colour of your roof leaving behind the familiar and unsightly mottled grey. Kolourseal roof coatings offer a rich range of natural colours which will restore definition, character and colour to your faded roof.
Older roof tiles also lose water repellency and start to become porous as their factory applied surface coating gradually decays, retaining moisture and encouraging the growth of unsightly moss, green mould and lichens. Kolourseal roof coatings use the same premium acrylic polymers as those applied to modern roof tiles so you can be sure of a waterproof and highly durable finish for years to come.
It is important to recognise that Kolourseal roof coatings are only as good as the preparation of the roof and therefore the surface must not only be thoroughly cleaned (usually with a rotary jet pressure washer), it must also be treated with Kingfisher Biocidal Wash roof cleanser to kill any latent moss roots, mould spores etc.

Testimonials Customers’ views on our roof coating and renovation system.
We have just had our roof power washed and coated by Roofing Solutions. Both my wife and self were very impressed the way the work was carried out by the two workmen, they were very thorough in both their work and cleaning up afterwards, they used sheeting to cover the garden both back and front. They cleaned all the windows, sills etc. We have nothing but praise for them, and see a job well done, quite an achievement in this day and age. K. Rafle
Dear Mr Scott WarmanWe thank you for the receipt and the guarantee enclosed in your letter received today. We would like to thank Leon and Nathanial for their work in completing the work in two days. They were most efficient, hard working and courteous employees and we would like to express our appreciation of their work. They cleaned up our property excellently. If you operate an employee of the month award or an employee of the year award we would have no hesitation in recommending for any such award. Mr. K. Wadsworth & Mrs. A. Wadsworth

Thank you for the letter and the Guarantee. We would like to say that we are very pleased and satisfied with the work carried out on our Roof. Lee and Simon were very efficient, it’s amazing what a difference it has made to the Bungalow. Everything left clean and tidy, very pleasant workers. Mr. & Mrs. Curtis
Roofing SolutionsYesterday you completed refurbishment of my bungalow roof. Just writing to inform you that we are so pleased with the result, indeed delighted. Your two operations Lee and Simon did a great job. They are obviously very committed and interested in their work and attention to detail. Everything was left in a super clean condition not leaving us anything to do. Your progress is not just cleaning and coating but is total refurbishment and you should advertise as just that. In conclusion, thank you for a workman-like job in which we are so pleased. Name and Address withheld
Dear ScottOne of your ‘teams’ lead by Lee Culyer last week repaired, prepared and sealed the roof of my house at the above address. I have to say that they have done a first class job and the finished result looks even better than you said it would - if that is possible! The whole operation from sales call to final clearing up has been done to high professional standards and your site team have been knowledgeable, helpful and courteous throughout. Thank you, and particularly Lee’s team, for doing a great job and completing it well before the specified contract date. Mike Gould
mac1030 Anglia Roofing Solutions presenter WORD DOCS.indd 8 8/10/09 11:53:47
I am writing to express my gratitude for the work you very recently carried out on my property. I was most impressed by the standard of workmanship & attention to detail shown by your employees (Lee & Simon). It was a thoroughly good piece of work which has quite enhanced the appearance of my house. Your employees were most friendly, nothing being too much for them. Once again thank you very much. Mrs. Thorne
I write to thank you for the efficient way in which to above job was completed, from the initial meeting with Scott Warman, to the swift and professional work of the fitters, and finally to the courteous response to one or two minor post-job problems by the Customer Care Manager. The work was completed much quicker than anticipated, and the clean-up operation (roof-tiles, paths and windows) was extremely thorough. And finally the appearance of the roof is now very impressive, just as in the brochure, and has drawn numerous complimentary remarks from friends and neighbours. I would be very happy to recommend Roofing Solutions to anybody who wishes to have similar work carried out. Mr. C. B. Kerrison

Superior Strength
Through patented technology, a non-woven polyester fleece is laminated to the underside of the standard RubberBond™ EPDM making FleeceBack™ a more substantial and stronger EPDM product. This makes it an extremely durable rubber roofing material that is:
• Over twice the thickness of standard EPDM
• 180% plus greater tear resistance*
• 60% plus greater impact resistance*
• There is no shrinkage or stress to cause leaks at flashings, upstands or other penetrations.
*Greater than standard 1.14mm-thick EPDM
Over 40 Years Proven Life Expectancy
The first synthetic rubber EPDM roofs were laid in the States by Carlisle™ Syntec in the 1960’S and are still protecting these roofs today.
Well known buildings rely on their EPDM rubber roofing such as Honda factories, Microsoft, Staples, Barclaycard, The Play House Theatre, schools, shopping centres, railway stations, hospitals and hundreds of thousands more commercial and residential properties.
Weather Resistant Rubber Roofing
RubberBond™ FleeceBack™ is not affected by extremes of temperature. Installations are in varied climates - from the glaring sun of the Middle East to the freezing cold of Siberia and Alaska.
RubberBond™ rubber roofing is not degraded by ultra violet or ozone as again witnessed by the many installations in hotter climates such as the Middle East.

Good Looking
• The colour of a dark grey slate looks natural and doesn’t easily show dirt.
• The smooth synthetic rubber finish does not require ballast or chippings that have an annoying habit of blocking gutters and downpipes.
• RubberBond™ does not support moss growth. It not only looks good on day one but also stays looking good even after 30+ years...
• The additional thickness of FleeceBack™ helps to hide the negative of the existing deck or finish.
Flexible Rubber Roofing
RubberBond™ easily bends with no stress, to follow the contours of the roof, up stands to walls, check curb edges, sky lights, pipes, terminations into gutters and the like.
RubberBond has over 300% flexibility so will easily accommodate building movement.
Resilient
RubberBond™ FleeceBack™ rubber roofing repels all moisture and does not suffer with age from cracking or crazing.
RubberBond™ FleeceBack™ “breathes” allowing vapours to escape, thus preventing blisters.
Ecologically Friendly
Extremely ECO friendly materials all applied with little energy – Both Government and the International Kyoto Ecology agreement recommend EPDM rubber as Best Value sustainable eco-sound roofing.
Tried and Tested
The RubberBond™ rubber roofing system holds British Board of Agrément certification No 02/3967 BBA – is designated by government to issue European technical approvals.

Fascia
The fascia is the long straight board that runs along the lower edge of the roof. It is fixed directly to the roof trusses and usually does the strong arm work of supporting the bottom row and carrying all the guttering.
Soffits
Soffits are an integral part of the roofline system enclosing and protecting the underside of the roof edge, while providing ventilation to the inner roof area to minimise risk of trapped moist air.
The Box End
This the most varied part of the structure, it has to accommodate many different angles, planes and heights of the three boards as they meet.
Cladding
It can be placed over existing brick work or used to replace existing wood cladding. It can be positioned vertically, horizontally or diagonally for various effects and will enhance the appearance of any building old or new.
Rainwater Systems
Rainwater refers to the gutters and downpipe system, applied after the fascia and soffit, to channel rain to the underground water outlets. These can be supplied as part of the full system package.
Information on RooflineThe fascia and soffit system on a house, often referred to as roofline, is the finishing/capping on the end of the roof structure where the rafters meet the external wall. It provides both a decorative and protective finish to the roof while allowing industry specified levels of ventilation back into the roof area to avoid condensation problems. Anglia Roofing Solutions provide these systems in a variety of colours, styles and finishes.
