The Sun newspaper (tabloid)

Bold letters, different colour to the majority of the newspaper text and with a different background that enhances the text. The Newspaper publisher needs to stand out

Headline of main national news story, written in bold letters to grab attention and stir the readers eyes away from the other stories on the newspapers so that the first text they read gives them a buzz making them want to read the rest of the newspaper.

Picture to accompany main headline and give a feel to who or what they story is about.

Story with less important news values to the main headline, but placed on front of newspaper as it is bad news ‘bad weather’ which grabs readers attention

Not national news, but celeb news which grabs readers who are interested in celeb news

Holidays usually cost thousands of pounds and to get a deal for one for £9:50 is going to grab readers attention straight away. Also involves picture of family to entice mums and dads.

Headline of main news story, font is intensively larger than the rest of the text on the front page, to grab attention. This headline will especially grab the attention of the newspaper’s target audience.

Picture that does not accompany the main headline, but makes readers feel patriotic and grabs attention, as it is a picture of an athlete from their country performing exceptionally well in the Olympics

Similar to the others, newspaper publisher in different font size and colour to the majority of the newspaper, to grab attention and make reader aware of what newspaper they are purchasing, also has a red background the enhance the text and make it more eye-catching

Headliner of this particular newspaper, font is larger than the rest of the stories on the front page, also accompanied by a picture of a rat. The headline ‘cannibal mutant rats’ immediately puts across that this is a ‘bad news story’ which grabs attention more than a ‘good news’ story, according to the news values of Galtung and Ruge, which I agree with.

Image of attractive woman appeals to male audience/readers and grabs their attention immediately.

‘Cheaper than the mirror’ shows that newspaper publishers compete for readers and that a lower price will make more people purchase and read it

Long running nationally well known news story, accompanied with a picture that is also nationally well known, grabs attention immediately as readers want to keep up with the news story as it goes on.

Smaller news story accompanied by a beautiful woman, could grab some male readers attention and female.

Advertisement for beauty and a ‘wrinkle free’ treatment. Grabs female audience’s attention due to the pink background and attractive wrinkle free woman that accompanies the advertisement. Makes audience believe if they try this detox, they will look like that woman.

Long running news story known nationally and accompanied by a picture that will be nationally recognized by the general public. Also involves a hook to grab readers attention and make them look further in to the newspaper to get the full story.

Date Price Competition to win large sum of money, also is free of charge to enter the competition. This entices the reader and may eventually lead to them applying.

Story involving children suffering, grabs attention as it is ‘bad news’.

News story involving gangs and crime, known as ‘bad news’ which is ‘more exciting’ than ‘good news’ and should grab the audience’s attention.
