The main building dates back to the 1830s, when Thomas Hewitt built “an edifice of great promise”, according to the Hobart Town Courier. Also within the site, the Gore Street Mill was a working brewery, the Derwent Distillery, operated by RW Loane in 1823, and the Cascade Brewery from 1888. The restoration of these buildings has superbly incorporated colonial buildings with contemporary residences by the use of thoughtful design and colours. An example of the restoration is a multi-office cubicle building that has metamorphosed into a sweeping dining room, and the original 1831 homestead has been reinstated. Comprising six boutique retirement villages in Sydney, Brisbane, the Gold Coast and Hobart, the group has grown over 30 years. VAUCLUSE GARDENS AN ADVERTISING FEATURE

For more than 20 years,Vaucluse Gardens hasbeen one of Hobart’s

most prominent retirement villages.

Bought by the late Tony Baldwin in 1991, the site has had an eclectic and interesting history, and today is a mix of modern retirement homes, merged beautifully with historical buildings and magnificent gardens.

It is its rich history and beautiful early colonial architecture that have made Vaucluse Gardens a unique establishment.

The main building dates back to the 1830s, when Thomas Hewitt built “an edifice of great promise”, according to the Hobart Town Courier.

Since that time, the site hasbeen also been used as a hospital in the diphtheria outbreak of the 1900s, before it was bought by the Baldwin Care Group.

Also within the site, the Gore Street Mill was a working brewery, the Derwent Distillery, operated by RW

Loane in 1823, and the Cascade Brewery from 1888.

The restoration of these buildings has superbly incorporated colonial buildings with contemporary

residences by the use of thoughtful design and colours.

An example of the restoration is a multi-office cubicle building that has metamorphosed into a

sweeping dining room, and the original 1831 homestead has been reinstated.

Today, Vaucluse Gardens isowned and operated by the Baldwin Care Group, a family-

owned enterprise with a strong history of supporting and looking after seniors in their retirement living.

Comprising six boutique retirement villages in Sydney, Brisbane, the Gold Coast and Hobart, the group has grown over 30 years. It still echoes the initial vision of its founder, the late Tony Baldwin, to offer friendly and welcoming communities where residents can enjoy life with like-minded people, while ensuring they maintain their independence.

Vaucluse Gardens epitomises this vision. Situated in a prime position just five minutes from the CBD and alongside the Hobart Rivulet, Vaucluse Gardens offers a tranquil setting with gardens and a peaceful environment, close to a range of community amenities.

The sunny north-facing aspect of the apartments at Vaucluse Gardens also takes in the peaceful green landscape of the Hobart Rivulet and provides wonderful views of Mount Wellington.

looking for at Vaucluse Gardens and are happy to have kept their independence.

“We were looking for up tosix years at various units until Felicity [Oakford, Vaucluse village and sales manager] showed the one that ticked our boxes,” Mrs Keogh said.

Mr Keogh is also delightedwith their choice.

“We like it here because wecan come and go as we want to,’’ he said. “Margaret walks everywhere now and the car is hardly used.”

The units all feature open-plan lounge areas, dining room and a contemporary kitchen. Many also come with two bathrooms and a separate laundry.

The sunny, spacious apartments are fully equipped with modern appliances, including dishwasher, washing machine and a clothes dryer to ensure the residents’ independent living is easy and carefree.

Additional services are available to residents in units and serviced apartments on either a regular or user-pays basis, depending on current and future needs, including meals in the dining room, cleaning and laundry services, and personal care.

And while they have the option to remain independent, residents have the comfort in knowing that support services

are available if and when they are needed.

“I thought when I came here if I could be here for three years then I’ll be happy. I’ve been here now for 16 years and I’m still very happy I came [to Vaucluse Gardens],” resident Bess Kable said.

Senior living communitiesare not complete without all the features to enhance your lifestyle.
