In this second issue of our Amsterdam alumni newsletter we take a look at the recent alumni event and give you an insight in the many other activities that took place. The event hit off at 17hr00 with a warm welcome by managing partner Bas Boris Visser. As a jury member of the TEDx Awards he was heavily involved with the conference that same day and he gave some very

enthusiastic descriptions of the talks earlier that day. Amsterdam alumni Diederick Croese, who is director at TEDx, introduced the live screening that followed, including some very inspiring speakers. events and aims to create a movement around ‘ideas wortspreading’. TEDxAmsterdam is organised by a nonprofit foundadriven by volunteers and financially supported by sponsors from the corporate world.

Highlights: seminars/events July: Beach party This summer party for all staff goes without introduction. At Bloomingdale's there were drinks, a great buffet and some spectacular moves on the dance floor!

September: ICLG Retreat

Late September, the International Commercial Litigation Group (ICLG) Retreat was successfully organised in Amsterdam, bringing together over 100 litigators from close to 20 Clifford Chance offices. Part of the

programme was a live interview with David Entwistle, the Global Head Legal Risk of Deutsche Bank. There was also a client panel consisting of experts from Citibank, EADS and Vitol, moderated by Jeroen Ouwehand (host of the retreat) and a panel of former and current secondees.

América Móvil on selling E-Plus, the KPN subsidiary.

Imtech on its rights issue. Rabo Capital on selling Van

Houtum group Holding to Van Houtum Beheer.

Some other cases from our practice areas:

Juliette Luycks, Steven Verschuur and Stana Maric (L&DR) obtained a first victory for their client Kone Corporations and various of its subsidiaries in proceedings brought by Stichting Elevator Cartel Claim for damages suffered as a result of infringements by the large elevator companies which were fined by the European Commission in 2007. The Rotterdam court dismissed all cases brought on behalf of numerous claimants for damages resulting from cartels in Germany,

Belgium and Luxembourg for lack of jurisdiction.

The Dutch Supreme Court ruled in the Promneftstroy / Yukos Finance case that the receiver in the Russian bankruptcy of Yukos Oil could sell the shares of the Dutch subsidiary Yukos Finance. This judgment sets aside the previous decision of the Amsterdam Court of Appeal. Our L&DR team is acting for the buyer Promneftstroy (together with Houthoff Buruma).

Twitter Did you know that…

Clifford Chance Amsterdam has more than 1,600 Twitter followers, which is the highest number within Clifford Chance, except for the London PR desk.

that relates to national and international pension providers and fits well with the IORP practice we are building in Amsterdam.

Sara Schermerhorn and Hein van den Hout published an article in ArbeidsRecht Maandblad titled:''Albron na de Hoge Raad: operatie geslaagd?''. They discuss the impact of the ruling by the Dutch Supreme Court concerning the Albron case for payrolling constructions.

Corporate responsibility Dam tot Damloop

A group of 35 runners from our office participated in the Dam tot Damloop on 22 September. All Clifford Chance participants made it to the finish.

Advolympics

This year's edition of the Advolympics was again a great day of sports, fun and an opportunity to raise money for charity. We raised EUR 1,317 euro by selling lottery tickets. The money goes to United Cubs (www.unitedcubs.com). Rumour has it that we raised the highest amount of all firms!

Furthermore… STiC Football Tournament

This year the second annual Clifford Chance STiC Football Tournament was held again at the sporting complex of SC Buitenveldert. It was a very successful day with ten teams competing for the cups without big ears (bekers zonder grote oren). Eventually, ABN AMRO took home the first price. The Mario Balotelli award went to a player of Procter & Gamble for his impressive technical skills and for being the biggest clown of the day. The STiC tournament was put up for nomination for Clifford Chance's annual CR Awards as it is a great opportunity to raise money for less privileged kids (Jeugdsportfonds).

Race of the Classics for Young Professionals

Our young lawyers again made us proud during the Race of the Classics for Young Professionals between 8 October and 13 October 2013. If it wasn't for their sailing skills, then it

would be for their ability to dress up for a party(!).

The Race is an annual sailing event, this year over 680 young talents joined and got on board of 24 classic sailing ships.
