Greetings, perianesthesia colleagues! It is amazing that another season of learning is upon us. Our ASPAN seminar series

will soon commence for summer/fall 2015. The ASPAN ANCC-COA Accredited Provider Unit has consistently provided excellent information through up-to-date seminars, and now

the new favorite – the webcasts. We continue to embrace and acknowledge what the Institute of Medicine (IOM) has espoused, “Ensure that nurses engage in lifelong learning”1 so they gain competencies to help them provide care to a diverse population across the lifespan. Please know that ASPAN and its ANCC-COA Accredited Provider Unit is always exploring new seminar topics that are of interest to all perianesthesia nurses in different work settings.

Our specialty is so distinctive that it takes a unique and, at the same time, a variety of educational offerings to meet the needs of all perianesthesia nurses. Our practice is ever-changing, so nurses must be kept abreast of the latest information in perianesthesia education. Lifelong learning is certainly encouraged and, to that end, increasing one’s knowledge base means the perianesthesia nurse is able to deliver quality and safe care to patients, whether it is in the preoperative, PACU or postoperative areas.

Current ASPAN programs selected for this season include:• Foundations of Pediatric Perianesthesia Care•Foundations of Perianesthesia Practice• Infection Control Challenges: Implications

for the Perianesthesia Nurse•Pain Management in the Perianesthesia

and Critical Care Settings•Pediatrics: Little Bodies; Big Differences•Perianesthesia Certification Review•Perianesthesia Essentials I•Perianesthesia Essentials II•Perianesthesia Essentials III

•Perianesthesia Essentials IV•Perianesthesia Essentials V•Perianesthesia Foundation•Perianesthesia Pathophysiology and

Assessment: A Systems Approach•Perianesthesia Standards and Implications

for Practice•Refreshing Your Perianesthesia Practice•Safety Begins With Us•Surrounding Your Practice With Excellence:

Legalities, Standards and Advocacy

Renew your perianesthesia passion by taking advantage of the wonderful programs ASPAN has to offer. Inspire excellence in yourself and your co-workers by taking the first step in certification and attend the very popular Perianesthesia Certification Review seminar. To our perianesthesia colleagues, I encourage you to attend these seminars. To our managers, please support your staff’s desire for lifelong learning. Whether you are novice or expert, whether you like face-to-face or virtual seminars, we know you will find what you need in ASPAN’s seminar series.

Sincerely,

Armi Holcomb BSN RN CPAN ASPAN President 2015-2016 Renew Perianesthesia Passion: Inspire Excellence
