Facts about deforestation

• Music: River flows in you• Text: one of the most important causes of deforestation in the Amazon is the cultivation of agricultural commodities such as

soya, which is used mainly to feed animals.• It has been calculated that McDonald’s and its suppliers are responsible for 70,000 km2 of the Amazon’s deforestation in the

last three years.• Evidence proves to be true that the soya farmers were linked to the use of slave labors, illegal land grabbing and massive

deforestation.• The deforestation in the Amazon rainforest region has led to the extinction of 26 animal and plant species, a UN report said.• 745,289 km2 of forest has been lost sin 1970. There is only 82% of the original Amazon left.

Page 16: Amazon Video

• Music: River flows in you• Text: Some say ignorance is bliss, maybe it is. But it can also make us blind.• Bliss means extremely happy, good. So, ignorance is good for example when you are going to

die. If they tell you that you will die in two days, you will most probably stay in bed depressed but if you are ignorant and you don’t know that you are going to die then you would spend those last days the best you could. So, in some cases ignorance is bliss. But in the Amazon’s case it only makes us blind, it doesn’t let us see all that we are loosing and the reasons why.
