+40dBm IP3 (3rd order Intercept Point)

Icom’s considerable analog RF circuitexperience combined with cutting-edgedigital technology results in an astonishing110dB receiver dynamic range and a+40dBm IP3 in the HF bands. A first inHam radio! To achieve this superior receiv-er performance, Icom’s engineering teamcompletely re-engineered the whole ana-log circuit and matched it to the DSP units.

Two completely independent receiver circuitsThe dual receiver allows you to receive twodifferent bands simultaneously in differentmodes, with each receiver not causing anyadverse affect to the other one.

Quad processingThe IC-7800 incorporates four independent,32-bit DSP units and 24-bit AD/DA convert-ers. By having four independent DSP units, the radio will respond to operator changesin an instant, as each DSP unit has a dedi-cated function. While there is one for eachreceiver, there is a DSP unit for transmit aswell as a DSP unit for the Spectrum Scope.

Digital IF filterIcom’s digital IF filters give you performancethat is not possible with crystal or mechani-cal filters. This allows the operator to adjustfilter shaping (sharp or soft), filter bandwidth, and center frequency characteristics, with-out missing the action. Multiple filter memo-ries store the last used filter settings byusing operation mode.

Ultra high stability OCXO unitThe IC-7800 uses the OCXO (Oven ControlCrystal Oscillator) unit which is stable to with-in ±0.05ppm at 0˚C to 50˚C. This specifica-tion means that even on the 50MHz band, frequency error is less than 2.5Hz!

200W output powerThe newly designed push-pull poweramplifiers using power MOS-FETs work on48V DC. They provide a powerful 200Woutput power at full duty cycle. An effectivecooling system maintains internal tempera-tures within asafe rangeand preventsthermal run-away.

Real time spectrum scopeDue to the DSP unit for the scope, the IC-7800’s spectrum scope provides excellentsensitivity, with 80dB of dynamic range. While the scope rivals many of today’scommercial test sets, there are 7 steps, ranging from ±2.5kHz to ±250kHz. This isup to 500kHz of spectrum!

7-inch wide color TFT LCDAn active matrix 7-inch (800×400 pixel) TFTcolor display was selected for the IC-7800. This large display shows main, sub-bandfrequencies, including various settings, andoperating conditions, as well as the spec-trum scope, S-meter, and RTTY/PSK31decoded messages. The “virtual” S-metershows high quality, analog-looking needleswings that are smooth and accurate.

AGC loop managementThe digital IF filter, manual notch filter etc.are adopted in the AGC loop, and controlledby the DSP. This system removes blockingby extremely strong adjacent signals in outof filter passbands, even very weak signalsbetween crowded strong signals can beclearly extracted from the noise.

Eight-channel RTTY TX memoryThe built-in RTTY demodulator anddecoder allow you to check the callsign ofthe station on the air instantly. The‘756PROIII has 8 channels of RTTYtransmit memory. You can edit and sendup to a 62 character message for eachmemory channel without a PC or otherexternal unit.

+30dBm IP3*Using receiver design techniques intro-duced in the IC-7800, Icom’s engineeringteam focused on producing a distortion-free, high-dynamic-range. To achieve thisgoal, Icom used higher-grade componentsin vital receiver sections of the ‘756PROIII.* Under the condition of receive frequency 14.2MHz,

input frequencies 14.3MHz and 14.4MHz, Pre-ampOFF, mode USB BW: 2.4kHz

Two newly designed preamplifiersTo minimize distortion and maximizedynamic range, the ‘756PROIII preampli-fiers use the same basic circuit design asthe IC-7800 preamplifiers. Preamp-1 is anoiseless feedback design, with push-pullamplifiers. Preamp-2 uses bipolar transis-tors for higher gain. It is ideal for usingseparate low-efficiency receiving anten-nas such as small loops or Beverages.

Real time spectrum scope withmini scope functionThe real time spectrum scope is now anindispensable tool for top performing HFradios. The ‘756PROIII’s spectrum scopeadds a mini scope function. The miniscope allows you to monitor the scopescreen while you use other functionmenus. For exam-ple, you can moni-tor the scopescreen even whileyou are changingthe IF filter shapeand passbandwidth.

Adjustable SSB transmit BWWith the flexible DSP-based waveformshaping, you can tailor your transmit audioquality to suit your operating style. TheSSB transmit bandwidth is selectable from100, 300 and 500Hz at the high-passedge, and 2500, 2700 and 2900Hz at thelow-pass edge respectively. 3 types ofhigh and low combinations can be storedin the memory.

32-bit floating point DSP & 24-bit AD/DA convertersThe heart of the ‘756PROIII is the provencombination of the 32-bit floating pointDSP and 24-bit AD/DA converters. Thispowerful combination supports the manydigital processing features of the‘756PROIII.

Sharp and soft filter shapesSelect an appropriate filter shape, depend-ing on your operating style or band condi-tions. Independent SSB and CW filters giveyou the flexibility you want while listening tothe signal.Preamp-1 Preamp-2RF stage & Preamplifiers
