Habitat for Humanity Project Set for Saturday, July 21, 2007. The Alumni Association will be sponsoring a workday for Habitat for Humanity on the Leeward Coast on Saturday, July 21, 2007. We will probably be working from 8:30 or 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 or 4:30 p.m. Lunch and drinks will be served. Join the Alumni Association in helping a needy and deserving Leeward family build a home. If you would be interested in helping out, even if for half the work day, please contact the Alumni Associa-tion at [email protected] or call Boardmember Ming Chi at 956-6545. For those expressing interest in helping, we will provide more details as July 21 approaches. Last year 24 alumni and friends (many pictured in last month’s newsletter) helped out; let’s make it 30+ this year.

Law School’s Hispanic Moot Court Team Finishes in Top Eight Nationally.

Continuing the William S. Richardson

School of Law's tradition of moot court excellence, the School’s 2007 Hispanic Moot Court Team ad-vanced to the quarterfinals of the Hispanic National Bar Association's Annual Moot Court Competition, held this year in Minneapolis. The team finished in the top eight out of thirty-two teams coming from such top law schools as the University of Pennsyl-vania, Syracuse, Northwestern, Wisconsin, BYU, and Colorado. This was the team's first year as an "official" WSRSL Hispanic Moot Court team, so the team was able to focus on the legal issues and ar-guments, rather than on fundraising.

In the quarterfinal round, the WSRSL team (third-year student Kristl Ishikane '07, and second-year students Mars Johnson '08 and Mark Disher '08) faced the University of Illinois team, winner of the best overall brief. Although our team did not advance to the semi-finals, second-year student Mark Disher '08 earned an individual award as best oralist in the competition. The team's coaches are: Elizabeth Robinson '01, Colette Honda '01, and Kirsha Durante '04. Second-year student Michael Colon '08 was the al-ternate team member, and first-year student Jas-mine King '09 was the team's administrative assis-tant.

Send us an e-mail at [email protected] (reference “Extravaganza” in your subject line).

(Continued from page 2) A special Kamaaina Buffet Dinner menu has been created to tickle your taste buds. The full buffet dinner and a standard drink will cost only $45 for dues paid Alumni Association members and only $50 for non-members. (Check your dues status at www2.hawaii.edu/~lawalum/). At the dinner we will be honoring one of our many wonder-ful alumni as the “Outstanding Alum” of 2007, and Dean Soifer will be honoring another alum for his or her support for the Law School. Send in the enclosed Outstanding Alum nomination form if you would like to nominate an alum for the Association’s award.
