    Hello Altrusans:

I cant believe that the holidays are upon us and my term as president is halfway over. I

am so thankful for our committee leaders and our faithful board. The ongoing serviceprojects and fundraisers always come together and Altrusans do QUALITY work.

Did you know that as a sponsor for a new member that you are in charge of ensuringthat your new member is involved in the club happenings? Please invite them alongwith you, let them know that you want them to participate. As an Altrusan, we get togive back 25 hours to our community per year. This is the main reason I joined Altrusa.I wanted to not just attend another meeting and socialize. I wanted to be a part of mak-ing our community a better place. As you are counting your service hours please includedrive time, our weekly meeting, time spent on the phone or on Altrusa business, and anyvolunteer time you may do on your own. It is important to give of your time and countthe time given.

I want to acknowledge Betty, Diane, and Elaine HaleJones for putting our newslettertogether every month. Elaines Page from the Past has been a delight to read. Theseladies all work hard to get articles and pictures into Betty for formatting. Thank youteam!!

Thanks also to our Holiday Festival Crew that was led by Nancy Morton-Kaiser. Shewill report on the Festival earnings in January, but preliminary numbers show that wemade about $15,000! There was a great deal of time and energy put into this yearsfestival. Thanks to all of the food preparers, servers, ticket takers, and decorators. Somuch goes into this fundraiser hats off to the committee for making it happen.

Please enjoy the holiday season. I will see you in 2011. I am looking forward to theSpring Luncheon, new service projects, and our conference. Rest up! We will need tohave our game faces on and be ready to roll in the new year.

    Happy HolidaysKaye

    The Montrose Altrusa Club

    hosted District Ten

    Conference in May 1998

    with the theme of

    'Springtime in the Rockies.'

    The Keynote speaker was the

    late television and motion

    picture star (and Ridgway

    resident) Dennis Weaver, who

discussed one of his favoritesubjects -- the environment.

    Service Committee Mid-Year Report

Recently amidst the preparation for Thanksgiving - I stopped to think about the daunting responsibility ofour Service Committee. We are tasked with making recommendations about how the clubs undesignatedfunds will be spent. The term hard earned money is overused and often tossed around lightly. But anyonewho has worked on a Holiday Festival, Spring Luncheon or Golf Tournament knows what it takes to generatethese funds year after year after year.

Over the past six months Carolyn, Dorinda, Dorothy, Erin, Joyce, Karen, Linda, Lita, Lorie, Marge, Natalie, Patand Roberta have worked together with me to make sure that your hard work and fund raising efforts actuallytranslate into Building a Stronger Community. I am thankful to have each of these Altrusans on the Servicecommittee. And, to each of you, I send a huge thank you for being there at the table with me each month!

We began the fiscal year on June 1, 2010 with a nice round number - $8977! (Dont ask you had to be there!)

We have responded to eleven funding requests in our first six months, totaling $3,888 or just over 43% of ourbudget. Surprisingly, the depressed economic times have not translated into a flood of requests for thecommittee. As a result, this position will allow us to respond to requests from our community in a similarmanner going forward.

Thanks for placing your trust in us and we pledge to be good stewards of your very hard earned money in the2011. Happy Holidays!
