HELLO I am a third year transfer student at University of Detroit Mercy; expecting to graduate with my Bachelors in Architecture in 2021. My interest is centered around redefining and restoring forgotten spaces. Designing for justice, community and recreational projects resonates with higher purpose for me. Transitioning from a nutrition back-ground, I had the privilege to serve, and learn from, many individuals throughout all walks of life. Through the journey, there has been many parallels I draw back and forth to architecture. Cultural preservation, health and wellness and sustainable systems have been driving forces in my understanding of effective design. I strive to learn more.

THE PASSAGEWAY A voting design proposal to address the barriers of the right, access and resources to making the people’s voices heard, votes count. The Passageway is an attempt to resurrect the power of voting through community celebration and cultural story telling. The intention of the space is to allow current citizens to feel empow-ered prior to the event of formal election, propelling the dialogue for generations to come. Gathering artists of all disciplines within the city of downtown and afar, a rotational art program is aimed to serve the community based on interest and demand. Embedding the site into a location that embraces multiple ethnicities and languages, to be a citizen in this country is redefined. Influenced by the Harlem Renaissance Move-ment, soft power is implemented to help amplify the voices of Chica-nos (Latino Americans) on what it is like to feel at home in the United States. Engagement in the arts is a radical movement that aligns with the people and the times. Politics, after all, is only another form of human expression. It is art.

TESSILLIUM Polish Hill integrates itself with the curvatures of the land. Because of the natural incline, the neighborhood resonates on a vertical rhythm. the housing complex is embedded between the streets of brereton and dobson. it is exposed in a field of green rolling grass; cased in between four existing building structures. The site is dormant but full of versatile potential.

The shuffling of private and public areas into interstitial spaces is explored. Fragmentation without isolation. The aim is to allow active areas to be lively and livable; to generate community engagement and collaboration. The housing unit embraces the two street views, binding it into a single entity.

The central void provides the illusion of the two buildings shifting apart. Concealed areas are reflected by white pine wood facades. Store front units, lobbies, and workshop areas are highlighted by glass mosiacs composed by fragmented strips of wood to provide ample daylight.

CONNECTIONS The link between ‘people and people’ or ‘people and place’. These are seen as relationships, and how people get around in a given neighborhood. This restoration project focuses on how the Chasey Condon neighborhood can be served with the ages of youth and seniors in mind. The community center, composed of retail and makers’ space, is equipped to serve various age groups throughout the day by rotational programming offered from morning to evening. Friendly walkways, parking, bike lanes, seating and shelter features are incorporated to encourage active social opportunities, pedestrian safety and priority. A place to “grow up and grow old in”.

“YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT” Metabolic Architecture: “A belief on how structures should be design; emulating a living being.” A purposal for a meditation retreat with the immsersion of a community farm. The concept of the retreat focuses on the open voids between the spaces to maximize green life and seasonal crops. The approach for designing a farm site is to revitalize the fresh produce supply into urban food deserts. Residents living within the site are in close access to fast food, quick-bite eateries and high-end restaurants. Yet, fresh farm markets are scarce in proximity. The retreat serves as a catalyst for nourishment into the city.
