The Alkhorayef Group is a company synonymous with quality, commit-ment, credibility and honesty towards customers. Additionally, we base our business on a set of principles which have been the most important factor in our success. In continuation of the emphasis we have been laying on expertise and work culture, we have formed the Alkhorayef Lubricants with a strategic alliance with British Petroleum (BP). The rapid pace of our development and sales growth had made it all the more imperative for us to take this important step. The interest of our customers was foremost in our minds. Alkhorayef Lubricants has thus joined the Alkhorayef Group along with a reputed brand as BP. It retains the Alkhorayef name, reflecting the compa-ny’s strong reputation in the world of industry and commerce. The launch of the new company is expected to further take us on the path of progress and prosperity. It will widen our customer base and help us introduce more products in the market. The Lubricants brand name, Castrol, is already a reputed one in the world. Alkhorayef has a private share in its ownership, and is now in this highly competitive market. And we well know that customer loyalty can only be won in this aggressive market, by ensuring quality and prompt service. Our message of assured excellence will remain rock steady. We will prove to our customers that quality and service will continue to be the hallmarks of the Castrol range of products in the Saudi market. We will continue to promote these values and build them further to retain and broaden customer loyalty. Two important factors will help us achieve our objectives: One is our es-tablished ability to develop the new entity as we go along; and second is the strong reputation the Alkhorayef Group already enjoys in the Saudi market. Our company, along with other private sector companies, has been playing a significant role in boosting the national economy for the wellbeing of our beloved homeland.

Fishing

Mohamed Abdel Wahab Saeed Maritime Section

[email protected]

• (Do not give me a fish, but teach me how to fish) A Chinese adage:

Fishing is an ancient craft started since the Stone Age, when man used to so easily jump into the sea to catch fish without having to use any equipment. Man developed his means of fishing by using spears to catch fish - where pieces of convex stones were fixed to tree branches for making traps and cages to catch fish. Fishing by threads is still the traditional means in spite of the fact that it is an old means, but it is still used in many areas, although it is not economically feasible, except in a few kinds of fish. Fishing equipment can be classified into two most important sorts:

1 - STATIC FISHING GEARS: Include the following:

• Gill Nets: These equipment are to be installed either in water surface or aimed at the bottom of the sea and nets are left sinking for several hours during the night so that not to be seen by fish. The most important of it is the Gill Nets and it is called Gill Nets because the fish gills hang in the mesh holes and impede its movement or exit from the network. Alkhorayef Company in Jazan Region

had applied the net- system fishing in far depths reaching to more than 80 meters, using hydraulic cranes to lift the nets – many fishermen had been trained on this system, which resulted in getting high productivity for lesser operating costs. Alkhorayef Company in Jeddah is currently coordinating with the Ministry of Social Affairs. They are working together on the project of diverting consuming households to producers in order to ensure support and development of fishermen. The company undertakes to provide all the required equipment and machinery for this modern system of which depths detectors and devices are used to locate fishing areas as well as training of fishermen to use this modern system.

• Cages and Fish Traps: These are container jars made of trees bark or metal wire designed in the form of either cages or a maze allowing fish to enter in easily, and makes it difficult for fish to get out of them, and often a (bait) of either dead fish with a strong odor or a certain type of flour is placed inside it to attract fish.

2 – Moving Fishing Gears: • Trolling Lines: A line thrown behind the boat while

accelerating – artificial fish are placed at the end of thread with a hook connected to attract the fish - more than one thread could be thrown on the boat ..

• Drift Nets: These are group of floating gill nets left floating for several hours to move with ocean currents withdrawn by winches, especially used in this type of nets.

• Trawl Nets (or shelf): They are nets in the form of bags that are designed with accurate specifications and they are pulled in the bottom of the sea by ships or boats equipped with special cranes to pull the net ...

• Purse Sein Nets) (Surrounding Nets): They are nets with a perimeter of more than 500 meters and its depth ranges between 80 to 100 meters, used to catch tuna, sardines and horse mackerel. It is thrown and rotated around the swarm of fish in deep water in the form of a hemispherical where buoys raise the network in the sea. Then special rope is pulled to lock the network from the bottom, then the fish taken out of the network. Then the network is lifted by using a special hydraulic winch .

We wouldn’t realize one day that we are going to live in a world totally dependent on technology in every detail of it, even if someone read about that before, he would fail to imagine the huge amount of developed services technology deliberately provides us in various forms and shapes. This speedy and vast advancement which makes wider hasty leaps and moves in comparatively shorter times made it harder for us to keep pace with it, as it is entirely controlling every single part of our life style, hence performing our works became heavily dependent on this development and techniques. Starting by using smart phones calls, passing by the browsing the internet through various sophisticated tools and devices, ending to access to our money which we can no longer hold in our traditional channels and but rather deal with and handle privately through bank and internet networks. We buy, sell and pay various bills and pay services fees simply from where we are even if we are on travel outside the Kingdom.Whoever tries doing without this changing reality which controls our life, just by neglecting the importance of these advanced tools, will not be able to complete the minimum requirements of his living. How many of our traditional methods of delivery became out of order and actually began in extinction and turned into electronic form? How many services and invoices required from the client have to be paid via the Internet or ATM cards or even by just a phone call? How faster is the growing volume of e-commerce day after day via the Internet? How much is the volume of data and information that is circulating via e-mail every day? Of course, the answer to these questions will reveal the extent of the enormity of the technical realities and the extent of the dramatic penetration in our lives. Some of us wrongly imagined difficulty in learning how to deal with such modern tools as devices smart phones, computers and the Internet, which forced them to withdraw away from using a variety of pretexts, trying to justify that it is not useful or that it requires considerable effort and study to identify the nature and method of using this new technology, which does not conform with the development of many of them, under the pretext of old age, or their inability to adapt to or dependence on their children and other friends to do on behalf of them, what they cannot accomplish by themselves. Such people shall realize that the reality is simply very different from the bleak picture they drew for themselves, they will admit that these tools, are in fact very easy to learn, yet they are sophisticated tools, but they are very simple and do not require a supernatural effort. Each person has to develop himself and has to take advantage of this simple wonderful technical world. Once such people merely discover by themselves the simplicity of these technical tools, they will sure feel the magnificence of this technical advanced world, since their mere discovery has lead them to pursue it automatically without the need to be urged by another person to do so. In their own private attempts, lay many benefits for themselves, most prominent perhaps, for example, is that they carry out their work by themselves and they maintain the privacy of their data. In many of the things pertaining to their bank accounts or passwords for different accounts on the various Websites, as it will enhance the chances of the use of time in different segments of the people, especially our dear retirees who usually complain that many of them have nothing to do.So perhaps this is an invitation to everybody to enter into this inevitable world of technology, its details and its contents are simple, easy, fun.
