One group of people who often disapproved of the things Jesus did was the Pharisees. The Pharisees belonged to the Jewish faith. They kept the Jewish laws very carefully and insisted that everyone else did the same.

Jesus asked the lawyers and Pharisees, ‘Is itlawful to cure people on the Sabbath, or not?’ But they were silent.

Then he said to them, ‘If one of you has a childor an ox that has fallen into a well, will you not immediately pull it out on the Sabbath day?’ And they could not reply to this.

The Pharisees also thought that Jesus should not be seen with people whom they regarded as sinners. They thought that these people shouldbe treated as outcasts. Jesus was anxious to show everyone that he loved everybody.
