Switching On The IOTs
• Press (Hold down)– Aux ON– SB ON
• Filaments need 10 minutes
• Check ion current is <1µA
• HV ON– HV will slowly rise to
27kV, ~600mA• Check ion current is
<1µA• Allow 10 minutes for the
quiescent currents to stabilise
• Switch RF ON
22nd July 2008 ALICE RF System Andy Moss/Alan Wheelhouse
RF On• Trace seen on
oscilloscope• RF raised on each IOT to
provide the required gradient for each of the Linac and Booster cavities
• Check ion current is <1µA• Ditto for the solid state
amplifier on the Buncher cavity

RF Control – Linac & Booster Cavities
• RF power adjusted using the gradient
• RF phase adjustment (station phase)
• All other controls are fixed
Main Menu → RF → RF Linac 1

RF Control – Buncher Cavity
• RF power adjusted using the gradient
• RF phase (station phase)
• All other controls are fixed
Main Menu → RF → RF Buncher

Operation
• Quench– RF should switch off– If not immediately switch off rf press HV ON
• Trips– Re-apply
• Constant trips seek assistance– IOT arc detector trips need to be reset at the PLC
• An additional screen will be added in the future
