The Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD) is an annual collection that counts the number of students in schools that receive help or adjustments to support their learning, together with an assessment of the amount of support they receive. It is carried out across the whole of Australia. Why is it necessary? The NCCD ensures that the information collected from every school is consistent and reliable and provides all stakeholders with information about how to support students in school more effectively. Funding from the Australian Government for students with a disability is based on the NCCD data, and this money helps support students in schools, and improves the education outcomes for everyone. Who is included in the data? The data not only includes students with a diagnosed learning disability, but also those who receive adjustments to their learning within school and those who receive support because of a chronic health condition, such as epilepsy, diabetes or anxiety. What does this mean to me and my child? If your child receives adjustments to their learning at Albury High School, for example if they have a Learning Profile, or engage with the Youth Worker or School Counsellor, they will be included in the NCCD data, which is collected in August each year. Personal details such as student names and identifiers are not passed onto the Federal education authorities. Do I need to do anything? No – there is no need for you or your child to do anything. If you would like more information, please contact the Learning and Support teachers at school, Carrie Frost and Sonia Davies, with your questions. A H C C P Regretfully the organising committee of the Albury High School Centenary Celebrations have decided to postpone the event until October 2021. This will be our Centenary Plus One celebration.

We apologise for any inconvenience these changes may have created for you but in these challenging and uncertain times we believe this decision is in everyone’s best interest.

It is important that we acknowledge the school’s centenary this year. Details to be announced in future Grapevine editions.

Y 12 G U As the final HSC exam is on Wednesday 11 November we have found it necessary to change the dates of our Graduation Assembly and Ball. The Graduation Assembly will take place on Monday 16 November. At this stage the Ball has been booked for Tuesday 17 November. These are tentative dates, dependant on the relaxing of restrictions due to COVID-19.

P ’ M R W The Year of Welcome.

Refugee Week raises awareness about the issues affecting refugees and celebrate the positive contributions made by refugees to Australian Society. Originally celebrated in 1986, Refugee Week coincides with World Refugee Day (20 June).

Refugee Week is a unique opportunity for all of us to experience and celebrate the rich diversity of refugee communities through theatre, music, dance, film and other events which take place all over Australia and highlight the aims of the week. https://www.refugeeweek.org.au/

A S P U P I would like to remind parents and family that at the end of the school day you should not be picking up students from the bus bay at the front of the school. This is to allow the safe entry and exit of buses and for our students. Also please be aware of the parking restrictions in place around the school and the relevant times, unfortunately some people have been fined recently.

Students parking in Griffith Street need to ensure that they do not block driveways.

S P The annual AHS school photographs event is a very important one in the school calendar. In this digital age, photographs of students and staff are used for many vital identification purposes and are required for the smooth operation of classes and the school in general. The individual and group photographs also hold an important place in the history of our school as recorded in our annual school magazine – Southern Cross. Thus, the AHS school photographs will proceed in 2020 but with some changes.

As a consequence of the COVID-19 measures we have re-scheduled the school photographs to occur on Tuesday 30 June and Wednesday 1 July 2020. We have just completed the organisation for this very important annual event. The details have been emailed out to all students and parents with limited paper copies available at school.

The individualised school photograph envelopes will hopefully be issued by the start of week 9. All students are photographed regardless of whether they are purchasing photographs or not, so bringing their personalised photograph envelope will help speed up the photographing process on the day.

In the meantime it is very important for students to have the correct AHS full winter uniform to wear for the photographs. This includes the AHS school tie and jacket. The Yr12 photograph will be taken on the steps at the front of the school as usual. Thus, it is vital that all Yr12 students are in attendance and that they have the correct uniform including the senior tie. We will not be able to lend ties, pants or shirts as we have done in the past. Students MUST be in full uniform.

Payments can be made on the day using a variety of methods or made online as per the information on the envelope. Students are reminded to ensure they keep any cash safe on their person and not in their bag. Safes are available for students to put their money into if they have a PDHPE lesson prior to their photograph being taken.

Please contact Ms Mortimer or Mr Honeyman at AHS on 6021 3488 if you have any questions regarding school photographs.

C 2020 CAREVAN will definitely operate during sport time in term 3 so students need to see Ms Mortimer or their Food Technology or Mandatory Technology class teacher to volunteer and have this listed as their sport choice.

W S 2020 Congratulations to Eve Brown Year 7 for her 1st place winning entry in the Wodonga Show – Junior Decorated Cupcakes. This is the first time the Wodonga Show has held the cooking competition for

a number of years so it was great for students such as Eve to support them in their efforts to get this competition up and running again.

D H E We very gratefully receive donations of fabrics and other textile items to our faculty. We recently received a fabulous donation of beads from Mrs Haberfield via her daughter Kim MacKinnon and her granddaughter Aliesha in Year 12. We thank them for their efforts in getting these beads to us. The Yr12 Textiles and Design class have eyed off various types and earmarked them to include in their major project creations. Watch this space for the results!

The P&C would like to extend a sincere thank you to all of the canteen staff for their sheer hard work and dedication over the last few months. The COVID-19 outbreak has affected our canteen significantly, but the staff and volunteer teacher helpers have managed to overcome many of the challenges and continued to feed hungry students. We are indeed very mindful of all that you do for the P&C and the school. Thank you all.

Do you have photos from your time remote learning during COVID-19? Have you taken a happy snap at another school event this year? We would love to see them, and possibly to put them in this year's Southern Cross Magazine. Please send all pictures to [email protected] A reminder that the Southern Cross Year Book is complimentary to all students who pay their school contribution fee.
