1. Foundation of DCNP/A

• Data Center for Nuclear Physics and Astrophysics was founded by the order of rector of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University on 12 June 2012.

• This solution was made on the ground of the appeal of Professors Kiyoshi Kato and Masayuki Aiakawa to the Rector of the Al-Farabi University to establish the Center at the University in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

• Afterwards, the letters of support were received from our partners: Institute of Nuclear Physics NNC RK, Eurasian National University n.a. Gumilev, Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Uzbekistan Academy of Sciences.

Moreover, the idea of foundation of the data center was encouraged by astrophysicists of Astrophysical Institute n.a. Fesenkov, NCCI of NCA RK. Our desire is to enter the international network of nuclear databases. It is important to increase the opportunities for young scientists to work with the database system. We also aim to create database on the radioecological problems of Kazakhstan and a database for Astrophysics.

Isochronous cyclotron (http://www.inp.kz/)

Isochronous cyclotron U-150 allows to accelerate protons (6 - 30 MeV), deuterons (12.5 - 25 MeV), alpha -particles (25 - 50 MeV), He3+2 (18.6 - 61.8 MeV) with varying final energy.

Accelerating system consists of two duants of 180o. HF-generator frequency can vary in the range 8.5 to 19 MHz at voltage between the duants up to 160 kV.

There is a possibility to work both with internal and external beams. The internal target assures heat removal up to 15 kW what allows to use beams of high intensity (current for 30 MeV protons comprises 500 muA).

Isochronous Cyclotron An isochronous cyclotron was designed at the NIIEFA (Research Institute of Electrophysical Equipment) (Leningrad, Russia). It was put into operation in classic mode in 1965 with fixed energy of particles (p, d, α) of 10 MeV/nucleon. In 1972 it was put into isochronous mode with controlled ion energy. Gas return system, outer beam transportation system, system of beam scanning at solid-state target, system of beam non-contact diagnostics and other were put into operation.

The cyclotron is applied in works in the field of nuclear physics, radiation material science, radiation firmness of elements, manufacture of radioisotopes, etc. The Small-sized cyclotron

It was developed and created in 1972 in INP Almaty (Kazakhstan). Protons are accelerated to the energy of 1 MeV with a current of several hundred mcA.

It is used for the investigation of various systems of a cyclotron - a central region, a magnetic field, a source of ions, etc.

Electrostatic recharging accelerator UKP-2-1

The recharging accelerator UKP-2-1 was developed and manufactured in 1987. It includes two independent channels of bunch transportation, united by one accelerating potential with the voltage up to 1 MV. Now for the investigation of the surface properties of samples on the accelerator, the methods PIXE, RBS and nuclear reactions are used. For the analysis of the beryllium containing foil on accelerator UKP-2-1 the methods of resonant nuclear reactions, nuclear reactions with redistribution of particles on deuteron bunch and Rutherford return dispersion were used.

UKP-2-1 Electrostatic Charge-Exchange Accelerator Control Room

UKP-2-1 accelerator is an electrostatic tandem of heavy ions based on Kokroft-Walton cascade generator. At the accelerator accelerated beams of protons, heavy ions (up to thallium) and inert gases with the energy of up to 2MeV/nucleon were received.

Electron accelerator ELV-4

It was constructed on the basis of the induction cascade multiplier. It allows to accelerate electrons with energy up to 40 kWt. The accelerator is used for sewing together the polymers with radiation and sterilization of the medical equipment.

Research nuclear reactor WWR-K

The pool type reactor on thermal neutrons. The heat-carrier, modeartor and reflector is a demineralized water.

It was put into operation in 1967, and worked with thermal capacity of 10 MWt till 1988 without deviations from the normal modes. From 1988 to 1998 works on safety strengthening in conditions of high seismicity (calculations and substantiations, strengthening of designs, duplication of the systems responsible for the safety, registration of the new documentation) have been spent. By the configuration change of the active zone, the thermal capacity has been reduced to 6 MWt without loss of neutron flows.

The reactor is equipped by hydromail, pneumomail, universal loop plant, neutron radiography plant, plant for the analysis of uraniferous tests by the method of late neutrons, reactor plants for the tests of constructional materials for long durability and creep, a chain of hot cells for work with highly active materials.

Duration of the campaign: 14 days The maximum flow density of the thermal neutrons: 1,4 x 1014 n x cm-2s-1.

The accelerator of heavy ions DC-60

It was manufactured in Flerov Laboratory of nuclear reactions of Joint institute of nuclear researches (Dubna, Russian Federation). Physical start of the accelerator took place on September 21st, 2006 in Astana. Its basis is the first powerful accelerator of heavy ions in the Central Asia DC-60 which consists of an injector- implanter on the basis of the ECR-source, a cyclotron and channels of transportation of heavy ions. The Injector-implanter allows to receive bunches of ions with energy up to 40 keV per charge.

One of the main components of cyclotron is the source of multi- charge of heavy ions on basis of electron-cyclotron resonance (ECR). It can work as a heavy ion injector in cyclotron for generating ion beams with high energy as well as on autonomous regime ensuring the experiments on beams with low energy.

Search for neutron substance – eight-neutron clusters, research of sub-barrier nuclear reactions with charged particles transmission for astrophysical and thermonuclear applications in case of progress meeting the relevant international standards, which earlier have not been conducted because of high-intensive accelerated heavy ions with energy near and lower Coulomb barrier. In connection with this implementation of such investigation experiments on DC-60 heavy ions accelerator are actual and rather perspective.

Neutron generator NG-150 is a facility, allowing to carry out wide range of scientific researches in the field of nuclear, radiation physics and elemental analysis using the fast neutrons flows. NG-150 realizes fast neutrons flows with energies ~ 2.4 and 14 МeV from the following reaction: D+d —> 3He+n or T+d —> α+n using the deuterium and tritium target. At the same time neutrons flows make up accordingly ~ 108 and 1010 n/sec.

Radioecology

• The specificity of Kazakhstan, as the territory of the former Soviet Union, is the saturation with nuclear test sites and facilities that requires the creation of database on environmental surveys and problematic regions.

Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, also called KazGU or KazNU, named after the scholar Al-Farabi, is the country's primary and largest university.

KazNU is the oldest classical university of the Republic established November 13, 1933. In 2001, the government classified it as a "national" university. More than 20000 students, graduates and PhD students study at KazNU, and there are more than 2500 faculty members working at KazNU, including 400 doctors of science, professors and more than 800 candidates of science and associate professors. Like other universities founded under the Soviet system, it is highly centralized.
