AKA Debutante Cotillion is held in Easton, Md. Four Mid-Shore area young ladies were introduced to society on June 2, 2018 during the second Pearls of the Eastern Shore Debutante Cotil- lion sponsored by Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Kappa Theta Omega chapter. Kalyn Marie Hopkins, a 2018 graduate of Colonel Richardson High School was escorted by KaRon Raikes. Nyaja Dabreia Jackson, cur- rently a junior at Easton High School, was escorted by Sean Cornish. ZaKyla Edvionne Kane, a 2018 graduate of Cambridge South Dorches- ter High School, was escorted by Axa- vier Spencer. Amira Noell King, a 2018 graduate of St. Michaels Middle High School, was escorted by Ivory M. Buck, IV. The debutantes spent several months together participating in cultur- al, social and educational workshops designed to assist in their academic and personal growth and development. The culminating event was a presenta- tion to the community in an evening of elegance and pageantry at Milestone Event Center in Easton, MD. Follow- ing their introduction the debutantes and their escorts performed a choreo- graphed waltz and a freestyle dance routine, as well as performing a minuet with their fathers. The keynote speaker was Deborah Short, Executive Director of BAAM, Inc., and Co-Pastor of Tri Life Christian Center. She engaged partici- pants and attendees alike with her em- powering address to the debutantes entitled Its Your Time-- a message of perseverance and confidence for the newly introduced debutantes. Each debutante received a Certificate of Completion, a placement sash (1st, 2nd and 3rd Runner-ups), a gift and monetary award. Amira King was crowned Miss Cotillion 2018 by Miss Janel Gibson, Miss Cotillion 2017. The chapter president is long- time Talbot County educator, Charlene Caldwell DeShields. The debutante program chairman is past chapter pres- ident and Talbot County native, Mary Taylor-Acree. Peace in the Park is planned in Salisbury Once again, community or- ganizers are planning the local annual observance of the U.N. International Day of Peace: Peace in the Park.For those who want to stop violence here at home, overseas, or both, the time and place to find people sharing that concern is from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, September 15, 2018, in Salisbury City Park across from Bens Red Swings. This will be the 10th anniver- sary of the event. The U.N. International Day of Peace has been celebrated around the world every September since 1982. AKA Debutante Cotillion is held in Easton, Md.

Four Mid-Shore area young ladies were introduced to society on June 2, 2018 during the second Pearls of the Eastern Shore Debutante Cotil-lion sponsored by Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Kappa Theta Omega chapter.

Kalyn Marie Hopkins, a 2018 graduate of Colonel Richardson High School was escorted by Ka’Ron Raikes. Nyaja Dabreia Jackson, cur-rently a junior at Easton High School, was escorted by Sean Cornish.
