It can be used with a Smart board, but one is not required. Multiple slate users can write at the same time as someone using the SMART Board. The Bluetooth USB adapter enables wireless communication between the AirLiner and your computer. It does not require line of sight. The batteryfree tethered pen works like a mouse, enabling you to select, edit anderase objects, images and text. A batteryfree mouse also works with the slate.
