The Alamo Area Council of Governments
• AACOG provides direct services & planning supporting communities and local governments in a 13 county area of south central Texas
• Air Improvement Resources (AIR) Committee – AACOG provides staff and air quality planning technical support for policy decisions by elected officials in the AACOG region

EPA Proposed NA Boundary: Metropolitan Statistical Area
Atascosa, Bandera, Bexar, Comal, Guadalupe, Kendall,
Medina, and Wilson Counties
Mandatory control strategies to reduce ozone are
implemented within the region contained in the final
nonattainment (“NA”) boundary

2008 8-hr. av. O3 National Ambient Air Quality Standard: To attain this standard, the 3-year average of the fourth-highest daily maximum
8-hour average ozone concentrations measured at each monitor within an area over each year must not exceed 75 ppb (parts per billion).
The 3-year average described above is the single critical measure of compliance.
Ozone Season: April 1 – October 31. Calendar year data required for compliance.
Most Current (1/29/2014) Timeline
• July 2014: Review Process of 2008 Ozone Standard Ends
• January 2015: Proposed Rulemaking for Revised Ozone Standard
• September 2015: Final Rulemaking published
• September 2016: Nonattainment Designation Recommendations from Governors due to EPA; based on local monitoring data
• May 2017: EPA Proposes Nonattainment Designations No Later Than This Date (120 day letters)
• September 2017: EPA Nonattainment Designations Final
Implies that 2014-2016 will be theyears of record for ozone compliance
