cosmetology instructor student is not only to pass the required State Board

examination, but also to participate in intensive training and study so that upon

graduation, the student can enter successfully into his/her chosen profession . . .

Facilities

Academy Of Hair Design 1 (Greneda Campus) is located ina modern facility that is centrally heated and air conditioned. Adequate parking

facilities are available in front and rear of the college. The Academy has available

approximately 3,200 square feet of oor space. This is divided into 3 ofces, clinic

area, dispensary, store room, 2 rest rooms, 1 freshman classroom and 1 junior/

senior classroom/breakroom. The Academy has the following equipment: 25

mirrored stations, 25 styling chairs (accommodating 50 students), 7 shampoo

bowls, 7 shampoo chairs, 5 towel bins, 1 receptionist desk, and 1 receptionist

stool, 12 dryers, 3 manicuring tables and stools, and other miscellaneous

equipment.

Academy Of Hair Design 3 (Jackson Campus) is located in a modern facility that is central heated & airconditioned. Adequate parking facilities are available to the school. The Academy has approximately 13,000 sq. ft. of oor

space. The area is divided into the following: 7 ofces, 6 classrooms, Cosmetology Clinic which has 40 styling stations with

mirrors, 9 shampoo bowls and chairs, 18 dryers, reception area & dispensary; Barbering Clinic which has 20 styling stations with

mirrors, 6 shampoo bowls & chairs, 13 dryers, reception area & dispensary, student lounge, men's and ladies restrooms, employee

lounge and restroom and other miscellaneous equipment.

Academy Of Hair Design 4 (Pearl Campus) boasts a main facility which s made up of 5,000 square feetthat is divided into a main ofce and admissions ofce along with an academic and practical room, stock room, dispensary,

two restrooms, break room and large lecture room. We also have an expanded campus located at 3161 Highway 80 East.

This campus is made up of 5,000 square feet that is divided into a large clinic oor area containing 45 styling stations with

styling chairs, 7 shampoo bowls, 19 dryers and 2 ped spas. The building also contains a dispensary, two classrooms, on

practical room, break room, stock room, ofce and two restrooms.

Academy Of Hair Design 6 (Hattiesburg Campus) occupies a newly renovated facility that is heatedand air conditioned. Adequate parking is available. The Academy has approximately 15,000 sq.ft. of oor space. The area is

divided into the following: Reception Area, 4 ofces, 6 classrooms, 1 dispensary, student lounge, men's and ladies restrooms

Cosmetology Clinic, which has 37 styling stations with hydraulic chairs and mirrors, 10 shampoo bowls and chairs, 18 dryer

units with chairs; Barbering Clinic has 22 styling stations with mirrors and hydraulic chairs, 5 shampoo bowls with chairs and

8 dryer units with chairs.

General Admission RequirementsCosmetology Barbering The Academy admits as regular students persons who are above the age of compulsory school attendance (16 years) in

Mississippi who have either a High school equivalency certicate or are High School Graduates.

Applicant must have Photo ID.

Cosmetology Instructor TraineeFor this program, The Academy admits persons who meet the following qualications:

Applicant must not be less than 21 years of age.

Applicant must have a current Mississippi Cosmetology license.

Applicant must have a high school diploma or its equivalent.

Applicant must have Photo ID.

Applicant must be a graduate of an approved beauty school in either the state of Mississippi or any other state.

Applicant must have twelve (12) semester hours credit in Methods of Teaching. Where such is not available, allied courses,

approved by the Board, will be acceptable. These hours may be acquired during your training or a correspondence course.

Applicant must have a minimum of 2 years active experience as a licensed cosmetologist to be eligible to enroll in the 750

hour Cosmetology Instructor Trainee course.

Cosmetology Instructor Trainee enrolling for 2000 hours must meet a!l of the above requirements except 2 years active

experience as a licensee cosmeologists.

Cosmetology

If you feel you have an artistic air and enjoy working with people, our Cosmetol-

ogy Program could be the right career path for you! The Academy of Hair Design

is dedicated to providing you with the marketable skills you need to succeed; we

are nationally accredited by the National Accrediting Commission of Cosmetol-

Barbering

Barbering

Barbering is becoming one of the "hottest" professions! Our Barbering Program

is designed to prepare our students for a rewarding, creative career with many

options. The Academy of Hair Design uses the latest edition of Milady's Standard

Professional Barbering text and Student Workbook published by Thomson

Delmar Learning. Students will be prepared to pass the state examination given

by The Mississippi State Board of Barbering Examiners. The skills and knowledgeobtained by The Academy of Hair Design will enable you to become successful in

the modern as well as the traditional barber shop.

The Barbering Program is offered at our Jackson and Hattiesburg campuses.

Instructor Training

At the Academy of Hair Design, students in our Instructor Training Program

are taught the most effective methods of teaching and conduction of practical

and academic classes. Students must also learn record keeping and school

administration. Upon licensing, an instructor may work as an instructor in

any Mississippi state licensed school and/or instruct in seminars, workshops,

conventions as well as continuing educational classes.

Students must successfully complete 750 hours if he/she has two years previous

experience as a licensed Cosmetologist or 2000 hours if he/she has practiced

issued to you, the student kit becomes

your responsibility and will remain on

school property until such time as

the student has graduated and has

paid any and all outstanding nancialbalance with the school. Students

withdrawing or graduating from school

have 7 business days from their last

day of attendance to clear any nancial

balances owed to the school and pick

up his/her belongings. The school will

not be held responsible for any student

belongings after 7 business days from

the students last day of attendance.

College Dress Code

All students will be required to dress in

uniform attire. Please check with actual

campus for proper uniform attire.

Diploma

Upon Completion of all required credits,

projects, when the student has passed

academic, practical and all pre-state

tests, the Academy proudly presents

each student with a certicate of

completion. He/she is then eligible to

take the Mississippi State Board of

Cosmetology or Barbering licensing

examination.

Job Placement Assistance

The Academy does not guarantee

students employment upon graduation.

However the school does offer

professional appearance guidance, job

referals and follow up services. A current

list of job openings are available to

students and or graduates upon request.

Make Up Time

Day students may make up practical

time on Thursday or Friday nights.

Night students may make up hours by

attending day hours. These days are

designated by the ofce. A student may

not make up unexcused absences.

Excused absences can only be made

up and these hours must be made up

within the same month that they are

missed. It is important that a student

try not to miss the assigned classes in

each phase. It is very hard to make up

missed classes. Day students attend

school 26 hours a week, Tuesday

through Saturday, not to exceed an

average of 40 hours per week, each

month.

Night students attend 17/20 hours a

week, not to exceed an average of 40

hours per week, each month.

Materials Needed

Each student will need to bring to

class; pencils, pens, paper and

notebook. Each is assigned a locker

for the storage of personal belongings.

Please bring a padlock with 2 keys for

your locker. Replacement of issued

implements or supplies may be

purchased separately at the Academy

for a nominal cost.

Textbooks & Equipment

All students are required to purchase

his/her textbooks no later than the rst

day of class. These books become your

property and responsibility at the time



General SchoolInformation

The total cost of the course is due and

payable at the time of enrollment. The

Academy also offers a payment plan

for students that do not qualify for anyother aid. Payment plan is as follows

for the above programs. A minimum

$1500.00 down payment is required

with the balance amount to be paid

in equal interest free payments for the

term of the program length.

Students not completing the course by

the specied contract period ending

date will be charged $8.00 per hour

until the hours are completed. TheAcademy of Hair Designs Registrar will

be glad to discuss with each student

tuition payments and terms.

Financial Aid Programs

Academy of Hair Design is approved

by the Department of Education

to offer Federal Government PELL

Grants, whereby, a qualied student

is awarded an outright grant for post

secondary education, Our college is

approved for Veterans, Social Security;

and Vocational rehabilitation Training.

Students desiring information regarding

various aid programs available,

should contact the college registrar.

Applications to apply are available at

the college.

Refund Policy

1. All tuition is due in full upon entry,

whether or not paid in full at that time.

If a student withdraws from school, the

amount due the school is calculated

based on all tuition being due, less any

refund due the student based on the

following refund policy.

2. An applicant not accepted for

training by the school shall be entitled

to a refund of all monies paid.

3. If a student (or in case of a student

under legal age, his/her parent or

guardian) cancels his/her enrollment

and requests his/her money back in

writing within three (3) business days ofthe signing of an enrollment agreement

of contract, all monies collected by

the school shall be refunded. The

cancellation date will be determined by

has withdrawn without notifying the

to withdraw, the student must notify theschool that she/he will not be returning.

The date of withdraw shall be the earlier

of the date of expiration of the leave of

absence or the date the student noties

the institution that the student will not

be returning.

7. When situations of mitigating

circumstances are in evidence, the

school may provide a refund which

exceeds this refund policy.

8. If the school is permanently closed

and no longer offering instruction after

a student has enrolled, the student

shall be entitled to a prorated refund of

tuition.

9. If a course is cancelled subsequent

to a students enrollment, and before

instruction in the course has begun,

the school shall at its option; (a)Provide

a full refund of all monies paid or (b)

Provide completion of the course.

10. The school will use the U.S.

Department of Educations return to

Title IV refund calculation as required by

law when necessary.

General InformationStudent Advising Service

The Academys ofce is available

for student advising, placement and

other personal service for the benet

of students. Students are free at any

time to discuss personal problems that

might effect their schooling or futureemployment. The Academy provides

a listing of professional institutions for

substance abuse prevention which is

available to the student upon request.

Living Quarters

The Academy does not furnish living

quarters but careful attention and

assistance if given to each student

in nding satisfactory living quarters.The Academy gives assistance when

requested. Usually there is little difculty

Library

The Academy maintains a library. A

wide variety of reference books, trade

journals, and audio/visual materials

are available. Everything needed by

the Student assigned projects are

for increasing their knowledge of

Cosmetology and is provided by the

Academy.

School Holidays

The Academy of Hair Design observes

the following holidays: New Years

day, Fourth of July, Thanksgiving day,

Christmas eve and Christmas day.

Unexpected Closure OfThe Academy

In case of the closure of the Academy

for reasons beyond the control of

the Academy, e.g. extreme weather

conditions, etc., the Academy will notify

students by way of public broadcast

system in the area.

Nondiscrimination Clause

The Academy, in its admission,

induction and graduation policies

practices no discrimination on the basis

of race. color, creed, ethnic origin, sex

age, religion nancial status, country or

area of origin, residence or handicap.

Clinic Assigned Project OrSpecial Classes

Students are assigned to academic

or practical classes. Clinic oor or

manikin room. Weekly schedule with

class assignments will be posted on the

bulletin board.

Student Dismissal

It students grades or conduct do not

meet the requirements of the college

the student must discuss the matter

with the School Director. The student

is then given a 30 day period to correct

the problem. It the student does not

correct his/her conduct, the student is

then asked to discontinue the course.

Leave Of Absence

A student may apply tor a leave of

absence during his / her enrollment for

a period of no less than 3 days but no

more than 180 calendar days in a 12month period.

Transfer Student

The Academy will accept no more

than 600 transferred hours for the

basic Cosmetology course. The tuition

paid by the student will be $6.86 per

hour based on the hours of instruction

needed to complete the course plus an

Administrative tee of $100.00 or 15% othe remaining costs, whichever is less.

Only equipment and supplies necessary

to complete the course of study will be

purchased by the transfer student. The

Academy will not accept transfer hours

for the Instructor Trainee course. *All

prior credits will be evaluated, even if

not granted.

Suspension And

Termination

The following offenses may be causes

tor disciplinary action resulting in

suspension and/or termination:

1. Infraction of the Academys rules and

regulations.

2 Theft or deliberate abuse and/or

destruction of classroom or training

in securing a satisfactory residence.

It is best if the student contacts the

Academy ten (10) or more days prior to

the date he/she intends to start school

so that housing arrangements may be

made.

school property.

7. Discourtesy to staff, clients, visitors

or other employees.

8. Refusal or inability to follow

instructions given by the instructor.

9. Any other actions which reect

the lack of respect for oneself or the

profession. Such actions would include

but are not limited to cheating, falsifying

records, gambling on premises, giving

out condential information, persistent

untidy appearance, foul or loud

language, etc.

10. The Academy reserves the right

to dismiss any student for failure to

comply with the rules and regulations of

the Academy. The length of dismissal

will be determined by the Manager.

Re-Admission Policy

Students may re-apply for admission

to this institution after being dismissed

for a three month period. The status

of the returning student remains the

same as it was upon termination. If

the student was in an unsatisfactory

condition, he/she will be re-evaluated

after completing one month of thecourse and all previous stated policies

will be effect; Re-entering students will

be charged at the current tuition rates

of a newly entering student. Amounts

during the period of an enrollment will

be credited to this account. This does

apply to voluntary withdrawals.

A Drop Student

A Drop student re-entering prior to the

6 month drop time will be charged a

$100.00 re-entry fee, plus balance of

the tuition owed on old contract (if any)

and any increase in tuition. If a student

re-enters after the 6 months period, he/

she will be charged a $100.00 re-

entry fee plus current tuition rate for

remainting hours and any owed tuition

from the last enrollment (if applicable),

This is calculated by the refund policy.

Tardiness

All students must be punctual in

attendance. Start time for day students

will be 9:00 am and Start time for night

students will be 5:00 pm. Students

are given a 5 minute grace period. Any

student who arrives at 9:05 or 5:05 will

be considered tardy.

Excused and UnexcusedAbsences

Excused absences are dened as:

Sickness of a student or student's

child with a doctor's excuse

Holidays given by the school

Funeral with documentation

(immediate family only)

Weather

Pre-arranged personal business

with prior ofce approval

All other absences are considered

unexcused.

At the salon or styling level there are

means that in some of the larger salons

throughout the country there are hair

designers who elect to specialize in one

the specialized elds within the salon

network. Of course, owning your own

business is also a possibility.

Teaching Level

This area can be broken down into

two facets. The rst is beauty school

instructor. This would require a

dedicated individual who has, or is

willing to acquire, the overall knowledge

it takes to instruct in all phases of our

profession. Instructors are usually paid

a salary and have the possibilities of

moving up to school manager or styles
