FAO and UNESCO-IOC FAO and UNESCO-IOC released a customized version of

DSpace – an Open Source, digital document repository system.

The communities supported by FAO and UNESCO-IOC/IODE are synergistic and the standards on metadata and controlled vocabularies are similar for both.

Goals: o Promote open access to scientific informationo Make scientific information more accessible o Increase impact of research information

UNESCO-IOC: The Oceans Network

OceanDocs Used by nearly 50 organisations in oceanography and aquatic

sciencehttp://www.oceandocs.org

Repositories with the same software: IBSS(Ukraine) http://repository.ibss.org.ua/dspace, CEEMAR http://www.ceemar.org,

Related institutional repositories:NIO (India) http://drs.nio.org, ODINPimris http://pimrisregional.library.usp.ac.fj, 355 docs (On Greenstone)

Oceans ctnd..• The OceanDocs Central is available for smaller

institutes and institutes with limited internet capacity• Odins create their network repository• Some institutes have their own repository• The oceanographic collection can be a part of a

larger institutional repository

FAO : AGRIS Network• The AGRIS Network was set up by FAO in the 70s and

created a worldwide cooperation for sharing access to agricultural science and technology information.

• Geographic view of centers see http://agris.fao.org/agris-search/search/AgrisLargeMap.do

The AGRIS open archives and bibliographical databases cover the many aspects of agriculture, including forestry, animal husbandry, aquatic sciences and fisheries, and human nutrition, extension literature from over 100 participating countries.

Page 10: AgriOcean DSpace: an introduction

• AGRIS collection includes 2,690,844 bibliographic records, of which 82.24% are citations from scientific journals and 21% have links to full text documents

1. Thesaurus plug-in

• ASFA and AGROVOC thesaurus embedded in the submission process

• Aim to integrate the thesaurus into DSpace in order to be able to pick and assign keywords for indexing

• The plug-in is needed on two levels: for the data entry process and for the browsing by subject

2. Authority Control for Journals

ASFA and AGRIS Lists embedded in the submission process
