Word from the PresidentApril 2016

Greetings, everyone. This is my farewell message as your President after a 7-year run. There are just two topics I’d like to address, but both are vital to the club’s future.

*Jeff Battershall of Warner, Norcross & Judd is leading a comprehensive review and revision of the club’s bylaws and constitution. He will present his initial recommendations to the board on April 18, and we in turn will seek member approval for any proposed structural changes in how we operate. This process is critical to more clearly define the role of the Board, its Officers and the Club Manager in shaping the future growth of KCCL. We all need to work in tandem without stepping on each other’s toes, while respecting the important role each serves. I’m confident KCCL will benefit in the long run with a more focused governing “game plan” in place.

*As I’ve said before, change always is hard. We’ve met with some speed bumps in working with an outside consultant to handle our financials. So there will be a delay before we can present a consolidated financial overview of the club to all members. This months-long transition process ultimately will give us tools for greater financial transparency, record-keeping and budgeting.

I do believe it is important for KCCL to maintain an independent, third-party source for review of our books, now and in the future. We’re no longer a Mom & Pop business, and we do have about 900 stake-holders with a keen interest in our financial future. We promise always to keep that in mind. It’s been an honor and privilege to serve as your president. Don’t ever hesitate to let me, the staff or any board member know what you like or don’t like about how the club is operated. Remember, KCCL is your club so please get involved.
