Cropping area is increasing with availability of water from MGKLIScheme

A.GENERAL PROFILE

Location

Nagarkurnool District is located in the southern region of Telangana State at a distance of about 130 kms from the Capital City of Hyderabad.It is situated at a distance of 40 kms Jadcherla, i.e.,Hyderabad - Bengaluru National High Way -44) The District Head Quarters i.e, Nagarkurnool Town is located between 16.48333 N latitude and 78.3333 E Longitude.

Rivers and Lakes

River Krishna flows through the District at Kollapur.There are 4 Major

irrigation projects in the district. The district also has 2022 minor irrigation

tanks. In addition Govt. of Telangana has accorded sanctions for restoration of

122 lakes under Mission Kakatiya Phase-I and 413 lakes under Mission Kakatiya

Phase-II. Due to this there is good scope for increase in irrigated areas and also

encouragement for fisheries sector in the district.

The district has 2498.49 sq.kms of area under forest cover which accounts

to 36.08% of total area of the district. Therefore the district has forest cover

more than standard requirement of 33%. The district also has Tiger Reserve

at Amrabad.

Predominant Economic Activity

The district has large rural population.The main source of income for this

rural population is agriculture and other allied activities like cattle rearing,

fishing,poultry etc.

The District has 38 branches of Nationalised Banks, 5 branches of Private

Banks, 25 Regional Rural Bank branches and 5 Cooperative bank branches.The

Lead Bank in the District is Andhra Bank.

The district has following hospital facilities:

The live stock population of the District is as follows:

The sheep population in the district is 3rd highest in Telangana state after

Nalgonda and Wanaparthy Districts.

Fisheries Details

Due to increasing in the water resources available from MGKLI scheme and

Mission Kakatiya there is also increasing in fish production.

The district has 136 fish tanks with water spread area of 13918

hectares.There are 148 fisherman co-operative socities.

Govt. has released 50 lakhs seed into tanks/reservoirs. The estimated

production for the year 2016-17 is 7380 tonnes of fish and 150 tonnes of

prawns.Thers is good potential for fish processing,fish feed and cold storage

activities in the district.

The District is also having rich mineral resources for promoting the

mineral based industries.

having all weather roads.

There are no Railway stations in the District.The District Head quarter is

located about 110 kms away from Rajiv Gandhi International

Airport,Shamshabad,Hyderabad.

Water Facilities:

Govt.of Telangana is implementing 56 Comprehensive Protected Water

Supply Schemes for supply of water to rural areas.

Under Mission Bhageeratha Scheme, 590 habitations will be covered for

supply of drinking water with a pipeline of 2,644 Kms.

Telecom Infrastructure:

There are 35 telephone exchanges in the district with 3075 telephone

connections and 100 Public Telephones.
