• Focus lessons, mini-lessons and wrap ups using teacher modeling texts that model strategies and promote understanding.

• Novel Studies – Independent and Guided• Small groups with independent learning contracts.

Reading Response Journal

• “Hooked on Books”- Journals and Bookmarks• The following must be done weekly for homework and will be checked each

Monday:• Your child must read nightly and choose two nights a week to complete a

journal entry in their “Hooked on Books” journal. They need to choose a variety of entries (they cannot choose the same entry each time)!

• Please review their entry with them and initial the entry. • Students are required to read between 5-6 books on their reading level each

nine week period. 1 book= 40,000 words• Each book must have a minimum of two complete entries in your child’s

“Hooked on Books” journal to qualify for a bookmark, which are completed at home and initialed by a parent.

and will be accompanied by a rubric• **If assignments are not turned in on time they will be

completed in study hall during recess and their behavior chart will be marked.

• Be sure your child is prepared each day by having all of their materials and appropriate paperwork signed.

• Any money or important office information must be placed in a closed envelope.

•Agenda - Nightly Monday through Friday Agenda is checked daily.•Behavior contract - over the weekend Behavior Contract will be checked every Monday. Please wait to sign on the weekend. •Reading Journal – Sign nightly, Monday through Friday.

•I am asking the children to be responsible and show you all communication and papers that will go home in the Blue Communication folder. Please help them to remember this. All graded work will be in the folder.

•If you find any mistakes in the grading or have questions about any grade, please email me and I will get back with you promptly.
