Attendance•Instructional time starts at 8:15•Students cannot afford to miss instructional time due to the structure and pacing of the curriculum•We need students here every day, all day, so if you can avoid late arrivals or early dismissals, it would be greatly appreciated.If your child has a fever, please keep them at home for at least 24 hours.

XLR8•XLR8 is a blocked off intervention that all students participate in. Students may be pulled into small working groups by teachers, or they may be working on an independent enrichment assignment. It always ties in with the curriculum we’re focusing on in class.
•This is a time to accelerate skills, not a time to sit idle.
Homework•Reading: Read for at least 30 minutes then write a brief response each night in Reading Response Journal.•Math: Usually pages from the Go Math textbook•Spelling: Yellow card with daily spelling assignments done in spiral. Checked on Fridays.•Please check your child’s planner every day to know about homework and testing dates.
Fine Arts•Our mission statement says that we will foster creativity. One way that we are doing this is through Fine Arts Integration. This means that we will use music, art, drama, dance and creative writing in conjunction with our district curriculum to allow students to fully develop skills in both a content area and a fine arts area. Students are very enthusiastic about these activities and you will hear more about them as the year progresses.
Important Info•5th grade has a field trip to the Houston Museum of Natural Science on Tuesday, November 10th.
•All 5th grade students take 3 STAAR tests this year:•Reading – must pass for promotion to 6th grade•March 30th, May 10th, June 22nd
•Math – must pass for promotion to 6th grade•March 29th, May 9th, June 21st
•Science – May 11th
