SOUTH BEND, Ind. — A

city in northern Indiana will

get a new chocolate produc-

tion facility and two muse-

ums, one with chocolate ex-

hibits and artifacts.

The South Bend Tribune

reported that South Bend

Chocolate Co. will purchase

more than 70 acres of un-

developed land from the

city for $1. The purchase

agreement being consid-

ered requires the company

to spend at least $5 million

within ive years to develop the buildings, totaling at

least 60,000 square feet.

The agreement will be dis-

cussed by the city’s Redevel-

opment Commission at its

regular Thursday meeting.

Tarner said he hopes to break

ground within a year or two,

after receiving approval from

the Federal Aviation Admin-istration. The site is close to South Bend International Airport.

Tarner will eventually close an existing production plant and small chocolate museum on Sample Street. The historic building hous-ing the old plant limits the automation needed to be competitive. Once the new location opens and Sample Street closes, Tarner said he expects to hire a larger workforce.

“Wait ‘til you see this; it’s going to be good,” Tarner said. “I hope we’ll provide some new vision for jobs and growth on the west side of South Bend.”

Tarner founded the com-pany in 1991 and now has 13 company-owned stores in northern Indiana. There are also four franchised loca-tions in Indiana, Michigan and Ohio.

But star Jamie Parker, who won the best-actor prize for playing the adult Harry, said success — and the embrace of Potter fans — had not been a foregone conclusion.

“There was so much poten-tial for cynicism and skepti-cism surrounding a produc-tion which could have been very tightly controlled and industrial and commercially minded,” Parker said.

But talent, hard work and oodles of stage magic pre-vailed.

“I’m just so pleased and proud that the entire team are being celebrated,” Parker said backstage during the ceremo-ny at London’s Royal Albert Hall.

The show dominated Sun-day’s awards, scooping priz-es for sets, lighting, sound,

costumes, best director for John Tiffany and three acting awards, as well as best play.

Parker beat rivals including Ian McKellen and Ed Harris to the best-actor prize. Noma Dumezweni took the sup-porting-actress prize for play-ing the grown-up Hermione Granger, and Anthony Boyle was named best supporting actor as Scorpius Malfoy, son of Harry’s childhood enemy Draco Malfoy.

Swaziland-born Dumez-weni said she was honored to play Hermione, one of Rowl-ing’s most beloved charac-ters. Some had questioned the casting of a black actress in the role, played onscreen by Emma Watson — though Rowling pointed out that Hermione’s race is never speciied in the books.

“So many young actors and actresses come up to me and say, ‘I’m so pleased that you’re playing her. I’m so pleased that I can see a version of

myself onstage,’” Dumezweni said. “So I am very, very privi-leged to do that.”

The play has drawn thou-sands of irst-time theater-goers to the West End, and Thorne said he hoped it would be “like a gateway drug that will get people involved in theater.”

In other categories, Billie Piper was named best actress for playing a woman whose desire for a baby leads to tragedy in “Yerma” at the tiny Young Vic.

The play, adapted by Simon Stone from a Federico Garcia Lorca drama, was named best revival.

Piper beat nominees in-cluding Glenda Jackson for “King Lear” and Ruth Wilson for “Hedda Gabler.”

“Groundhog Day,” which began life at London’s Old Vic and is now previewing on Broadway, was named best new musical. The show by Tim Minchin and Danny Ru-

bin wittily reworks the much-loved 1993 movie about a cyn-ical weatherman doomed to repeat the same day over and over again.

Andy Karl was named best actor in a musical for his per-formance in the lead role, made famous onscreen by Bill Murray.

Former “Glee” star Amber Riley was named best actress in a musical for a powerhouse performance in “Dreamgirls,” and her co-star Adam J. Ber-nard was named best support-ing actor in a musical. Best supporting actress in a musi-cal was Rebecca Trehearn for “Show Boat.”

Composer Andrew Lloyd-Webber saw two of his mu-sicals take awards. The child rockers of “School of Rock The Musical” won the prize for outstanding achievement in music, while an open-air production of “Jesus Christ Superstar” in London’s Re-gent’s Park was named best

The Oliviers have become an increasingly glitzy affair in recent years, awarded at a ceremony studded with musi-cal numbers. Sunday’s event had the added boost of radi-ant sunshine for a positively summery red carpet.
