The Canadian Council on Africa

DEAR FRIENDS,

The Canadian Council on Africa (CCAfrica) is proud to welcome business women from 13 African countries. We congratulate the African Women Diplomatic Forum (AWDF) for their vision in spearheading this conference and for their tremendous effort in recruiting such a delegation of private sector leaders.

We gratefully acknowledge the tremendous support we have received from the High Commissioner of Rwanda and the Chair of the AWDF, H.E. Edda Mukabagwiza, the High Commissioner of Zimbabwe and Dean of the African Diplomatic Corps, H.E. Florence Chideya, and the High Commissioner of Lesotho, H.E. Mathabo Tsepa,. The staff from CCAfrica and the personnel from the 3 High Commissions must also be congratulated for their dedication and hard work to ensure the total success of this conference.

The objectives of the conference are clear - For the African delegation, it is their wish to help Canadians to better understand the challenges and opportunities presented by African business women and to find potential new business partners. For the Canadians and the Diaspora, it is a unique opportunity to further their understanding of some of the most vibrant economies in the world and to explore the vast potential for new investments and business development in Africa. The ultimate objective of the AWDF and the Canadian Council on Africa is to build stronger relations and promote increased commercial activities between Africa and Canada. We sincerely wish you rewarding exchanges and discussions over the two days.

Lucien BradetPresident and CEO of the Canadian Council on Africa

The African Diplomatic Corps in Ottawa welcomes all the participants attending the Trade and Investment Conference and congratulates A.W.D.F for bringing it to fruition. The theme, ‘The Role of Women in Stimulating the Economy,” is the focus of the deliberations from a wide spectrum of various backgrounds of women from Canada, several countries from African continent and the diaspora.

This conference is part of Africa Week celebrations and has been designed to be the precursor to Golden Jubilee celebrations to be held in Ottawa on 29th May, 2013. Ottawa is host to 33 countries out of the 54 countries that make up the continent. Today’s project complements efforts recommended by the A.U. to intensify the visibility of Africa globally and the desire to ‘reverse the current story line of despair into the real narrative of opportunity and potential.’

In Canada this promotion has been expressed through various measures among them: films, festivals, symposia and seminars, not to miss out the diplomatic A.U. soccer team which won awards in Ottawa!

I wish you pleasant deliberations and fruitful outcomes.

Her Excellency Florence Zano ChideyaDean of the African Diplomatic CorpsAmbassador of the Republic of Zimbabwe
