At William Penn, it’s all about leadership

It’s been said that good leaders are made, not born. William Penn University would

agree. Since its founding in 1873, the university has recognized and addressed the

need for leaders at every level, in organizations big and small – in business, education,

justice systems and more.

As one of Iowa’s oldest and most respected universities, William Penn’s leadership

core curriculum is recognized nationally as a model in leadership development.

At William Penn’s College for Working Adults (CWA), that leadership core is an

essential component of every adult-friendly program it offers.

At William Penn, adults find the flexibility and affordability they need. CWA stu-

dents take one course at a time at convenient locations in West Des Moines, Oskaloosa

and Ankeny – or online. The West Des Moines campus boasts 15 new classrooms that

include the latest technology, a spacious student lounge and a library.

Adults can begin with an associate degree in leadership studies, or choose among

bachelor’s degree programs in business management (onground or online), justice sys-

tems leadership, insurance management, human resource management or accounting.

Graduate students can study for a Master of Business Leadership, online or onground.

Courses for certificates in human resource management or property and casualty insur-

ance are also available online.

CWA programs are accelerated and the unique structure means most students are

eligible for full-time financial aid. William Penn also is military friendly, waiving ap-

plication fees for military and spouses, plus giving college credits for military training.

Do your career justice at Simpson College

In 2009, Simpson College began the first Master of Arts in Criminal Justice program

in central Iowa. The Master of Arts in Criminal Justice (MACJ) is a part-time evening

program designed for experienced professionals. The degree is tailored for people in

fields related to policing, corrections, juvenile and court services, and attracts students

who want to advance their careers with a highly valued credential.

Meeting the Needs of the Criminal Justice Community: “We are truly delighted to

be able to respond to the feedback of our students and alumni by adding the Master of

Arts in Criminal Justice program. The program adds to an expanding list of opportuni-

ties available at Simpson for professionals,” said Rosemary Link, Associate Vice Presi-

dent at Simpson.

The program provides students the opportunity to update their knowledge, expand

skills, hone their critical thinking, and become leaders in their field. “This program

was designed with criminal justice professionals in mind,” said Fred Jones, professor

and MACJ Director. “The MACJ degree will benefit those who are looking for new

resources and ideas in order to provide better services to their communities.”

Flexible Programming for Busy Schedules: MACJ courses are taught in a hybrid for-

mat, primarily at Simpson’s Ankeny and West Des Moines campuses. Hybrid courses

combine face-to-face instruction with the convenience and flexibility of online learning.

Students attend class one night per week and complete the remainder of the coursework

online. Courses are eight weeks long and allow students to begin almost any time of the

year. Most students can complete the degree in two-and-a-half years, any many are able

to finish sooner.

Simpson College is currently accepting applications for the MACJ program. For

more information visit www.simpson.edu/macj or contact Craig Peck, MACJ academic

advisor, at [email protected] or 515-965-9355.
