MOLLY BURACK ANNUAL LECTUREAngela Himsel: A River Could Be A TreeThe seventh of eleven children, Angela grew up in Southern Indiana in an apocalyptic, doomsday Christian faith. Attempting to understand the church’s strict tenets, she decided, at age nineteen, to study in Israel. Instead of strengthening her Christian faith, her time in Israel made her question Christianity itself. Can that possibly be true? What made them such a strong force that they’re still popular now, more than 50 years later? We will explore the phenomenon that was The Beatles— their growth, originality, musical innovations, and lyric depth. BARRY WIESENFELD is a freelance musician, a published author and is on the music faculty of SUNY and Ramapo College. HOLIDAY TRAIN SHOWThe New York Botanical GardensArthur AvenueMarvel at model trains zipping through an enchanting display of more than 175 famous New York landmarks—imagine the Statue of Liberty, Brooklyn Bridge, Rockefeller Center, and other favorites—each delightfully recreated from natural materials such as birch bark, acorns, and cinnamon sticks. There will be time to explore the Winter Wonderland including the Garden’s 250 acres. Morgan in 1906, which included manuscripts and printed books, some of them in rare bindings, as well as his collection of prints and drawings. A museum educator will give an overview of the Morgan’s history, architecture, historic buildings, collections, and exhibitions. Grand Central Terminal, a masterpiece of architecture, is our next stop.
