Additionally, students who did not graduate from the univer- sity in the English speaking countries are required to submit the official English test score with the certain required score during their first year at Sogang GSIS. Students can apply for TA or RA from the 2 nd semester for the additional scholarship. Korean Government Scholarship Program by NIIED The NIIED (National Institute for International Education; Korean governmental institute) invites international students at the beginning of every year for Ko- rean Government Scholarship Program(KGSP). The KGSP is a full-scholarship program having a lot of benefits including living costs. International students can apply for the KGSP through Sogang GSIS or Korean embassy in their coun- tries for every fall semester admission. Why Sogang GSIS?

Degree Program

Majors 1) International Relations (including National Intelligence & Security Track)

The International Relations Program is designed to answer a demand for a new kind of professional who has a thorough knowledge of academia as well as an understanding of the current global environment. The breadth and depth of knowledge offered in the two-year masters and doctoral pro-gram is useful to students with aspirations to pursue a professional career in the international arena or to those who plan to combine a specific discipli-nary major with a career in the international relations.

2) International TradeThe International Trade Program’s main objective is to train motivated students to be competent and sophisticated professionals by incorporat-ing substantial approach focused on a specialized theoretical framework, including international business, international negotiations, and policy analysis of international trade, with a more practical one designed to bring in more experienced professors and experts in the related field with an aim to broaden students’ analytical perspectives on various issues.

3) International FinanceThe International Finance Program is designed to give students the tools, knowledge and insight needed in a dynamic financial marketplace. An in-depth study into related topics in the field of international finance, including investments, derivatives, accounting and financial institutions will allow students to familiarize themselves with the use of required analytical skills, computer-based tools, linear relationships, regression analysis, optimiza-tion techniques, and many more.

4) Korea & East AsiaThe East Asian Studies Program offers interdisciplinary courses on eco-nomic, political, international, and socio-cultural aspects of East Asia (in particular, Korea, China and Japan), which incorporate both historic and contemporary issues. While many courses focus on a specific country, some courses deal with region-wide issues. The goal of this program is to train area specialists on the East Asia region. Students may concentrate on one of the three countries in the region, although specializing in more than one country is a feasible option.

Sogang GSIS offers professional master’s degree program in four specialty areas. Professional master’s degree programs offer the Master of Inter-national studies degree. Sogang GSIS also offers Ph.D. programs on four specialty areas.

Interdisciplinary Curriculum Sogang GSIS provides a truly interdisciplinary curriculum that draws on the study of international relations, international trade, international finance and Korea & East Asian studies. Our superb array of multidisciplinary programs en-able students to be equipped with both intellectual breadth and professional capacity. Not only will each student gain knowledge about their own major, but student will also be competitive in other areas of international study.

Distinguished Faculty Our faculty is comprised of scholars from prestigious universities in the world such as Yale, Stanford, Cambridge, Brown university. They are committed to working closely with students and guiding them in their academic pursuits. Especially, the high student-professor ratio is a hallmark of Sogang GSIS and we are very proud to offer a closeness between students and professors that is quite rare in Korea. Our professors become true mentors.

High Student Satisfaction One of the things which makes Sogang GSIS special is the high level of student satisfaction. The small class sizes and high lecture quality lead to a satisfied student body. Academics aside, Sogang GSIS encourages an environment conducive to nurturing friendships. There are many events where students can gather together and get to know each other. We strongly believe that interper-sonal skills are also the crucial part of any educational institution.

Academic System : There are 2 semesters (Spring, Fall) per 1 year. (Spring semester is from Mar. to Jun. and fall semester is from Sep. to Dec.)

: All courses are offered in English. No evening courses are offered. : Every course is 3 credits and 3 hours per week except ‘Special Lectures on

Global Issues’.

International Student Support System Sogang GSIS is fully aware that studying abroad is a huge commitment that can be fraught with uncertainties and concerns. As a result, we have established an International Student Supporter System that attempts to alleviate many of these worries so that students can feel more at ease pursuing their academic goals and cultural interests in Korea. Supporters will help international stu-dents adjust to new life in Seoul.

Exchange ProgramSogang GSIS places great emphasis on finding opportunities for students to study abroad. Students can experience the dynamics of the fields of interna-tional studies as well as get benefits of a personal education goal by taking courses of foreign universities. Sogang University has joint academic agree-ments with over 319 university-level partners in 60 countries, including Jesuit universities. Also, Sogang GSIS itself has established relations with several universities in France, Poland, Czech, Austria, Taiwan and Iran.

Support of Learning Korean for International Students Sogang Korean Language Education Center(KLEC) is well known for its cur-riculum which presents students with effective and dynamic situations through which to practice Korean language skills. For Sogang GSIS students who want to learn Korean, 30% of the tuition fee is discounted by KLEC and 10~20% is supported by GSIS. Students can apply up to 3 times during their course.

Special Lectures on Global Issues Sogang GSIS holds a special lecture every week during the semester. It gives students chances of meeting international experts from domestic and foreign governments, embassies, large corporations and NGOs. During the lecture, they present and discuss current international issues pertinent to their experi-ence. Students can see the real world application of in-class theory and expand the human network.

Center of Youth Sogang University is located in Sinchon, the center of Seoul, South Korea. Situated in the heart of Seoul, Sogang could not be more conveniently located. Sinchon is a bustling area filled with restaurants, department stores and bars. There is always something happening here, and Sogang is right in the center of it. Also, Sogang university provides firsthand experience to international students through various student activities.
