This verse guides chapel topics, time in prayer with the teachers and staff, and becomes the focus in my times of prayer for our school. For this school year, I have selected I Thessalonians 5:23-24, Paul's prayer for the Gentile church of Thessalonica. In chapel, we have begun to look as this beautiful doxology and several students had it memorized by the second chapel of the year. In fact, one second grader reported to me that she can say it with her eyes closed, jumping on one foot, turning around in circles. Very impressive! In this doxology, the Apostle Paul prays for the church that they would be sanctified, set apart for a holy purpose in all aspects of their being. But this is more than just a prayer of blessing, for this is a prayer of faith and commitment. In the same way that Paul prays for the church, the CCS teachers, staff, and school board are praying for our school and our students. We are praying for and pressing towards complete sanctification in spirit, soul, and body. One Biblical scholar explains this sanctification, "Where the good work of grace is begun, it shall be carried on, be protected and preserved; and all those who are sanctified in Christ Jesus shall be preserved to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ." (Matthew Henry Commentary, Bible study tools. Com, 2014) What should this sanctification look like at our school? It should be demonstrated in the classroom as the teachers explain the material in the light of God's Truth. It is exhibited at the cross country meet and the volleyball games as coaches and player exhibit great sportsmanship and effort. It can be seen on the playground as students run and play and enjoy the outdoors. As those who love the Lord, each part of our day and each part of our lives must be set aside for His holy purpose. And as the prayer closes the promise is given. Our God who is faithful will complete this sanctification in our lives. Truly, He is faithful and He will do it- for His glory! High School Retreat 5

Now may the God of peace Himself

sanctify you completely, and may your

whole spirit and soul and body be kept

blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus

Christ. He who calls you is faithful; He will

surely do it. I Thessalonians 5:23-24

Prior to each school year, I spend time

considering the theme verse for the year.

This verse guides chapel topics, time in

prayer with the teachers and staff, and

becomes the focus in my times of prayer

for our school. For this school year, I have

selected I Thessalonians 5:23-24, Paul's

prayer for the Gentile church of

Thessalonica. In chapel, we have begun to

look as this beautiful doxology and several

students had it memorized by the second

chapel of the year. In fact, one second

grader reported to me that she can say it

with her eyes closed, jumping on one foot,

turning around in circles. Very impressive!

In this doxology, the Apostle Paul prays for

the church that they would be sanctified,

set apart for a holy purpose in all aspects

of their being. But this is more than just a

prayer of blessing, for this is a prayer of

faith and commitment. In the same way

that Paul prays for the church, the CCS

teachers, staff, and school board are

praying for our school and our students.

We are praying for and pressing towards

complete sanctification in spirit, soul, and

body. One Biblical scholar explains this

sanctification, "Where the good work of

grace is begun, it shall be carried on, be

protected and preserved; and all those

who are sanctified in Christ Jesus shall be

preserved to the coming of our Lord Jesus

Christ." (Matthew Henry Commentary,

Bible study tools. Com, 2014)

What should this sanctification look like at

our school? It should be demonstrated in

the classroom as the teachers explain the

material in the light of God's Truth. It is

exhibited at the cross country meet and

the volleyball games as coaches and

player exhibit great sportsmanship and

effort. It can be seen on the playground as

students run and play and enjoy the

outdoors. As those who love the Lord,

each part of our day and each part of our

lives must be set aside for His holy

purpose.

And as the prayer closes the promise is

given. Our God who is faithful will

complete this sanctification in our lives.

Truly, He is faithful and He will do it- for

His glory!
