Adam Peck Q1

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and

conventions of real music videos?

This is the front cover of our magazine advert. It clearly states that it is a Bocca J rework of a song. The color schemes that we have used follow the conventions in the way that they are significant to the video that we produce.

This gives the reader an idea of what they may be in for when they see the video. The use of black and white also follows the way that we presented our music video. We believe that the use of black and white really enables the editor to change the contrast setting in order to bring out the boldest blacks and greys.

This is the first shot that introduces the main character. We chose to do this type of shot because it shows him to be very mysterious and because you cant see the whole of his face adds to the suspense. This follows the conventions of the style of music that’s we used because that recognizable house beat makes things seem to be odd and mysterious.

The use of the mask is also creating a story line that can be followed throughout the video. This can be seen to follow and not follow conventions because not all music videos have a story line and they are just a performance. But because it does have a story line we are able to create a powerful video.

As we was walking through our filming location we noticed this sign. We thought that the writing on the back of it was very abstract and thought that it would fit great in our product.

General music videos are not as abstract as what we have created so ours would be seen to challenging the common conventions of a music video. However, most of the very abstract videos that have been created have been remembered by everyone that has seen them. This is what we hope to achieve by making our video memorable which would add to its success.

This here is a very key shot in the music video because it adds to the effect of the story line. The main story is about things getting destroyed and one person isn’t enough in order to stop it from happening.

This will be seen to be following the conventions of a normal music video because it is following the story line and adding affect. However you don’t normally see long range shots like this in a video because the attention is normally on the performer at all times so it is also challenging the conventions.

In order to get the best effect out of our music video we decided that once we had used one persons eyes we had to use all of ours. We played around with it and reversed it to mix it to the beat and overall it gave a great effect.

This would be seen to comply with the normal conventions of a music video because we set all the shots to the beat of the music which made them look like they have tempo too.

In our music video we wanted to have a very wide variety of shots in order to create the best affect. Most music videos do this, however we wanted to make sure that every shot was clear and had meaning.

This shot shows a bottle which is thrown into the water. This symbolizes that when and old thing is moved out of its way (the water) and replaced with something new (the bottle) . This is also seen to conform with a music video convention because it creates a meaning and a purpose.

This was our first shot where we changed the setting of the performance. At first it comes as a shock because in the first half of the video it is in a forest environment but it changes to the complete opposite in a built up city.

This is seen to be challenging the common conventions of a music video because they normally stay with one setting throughout the whole of the production. However, the change of scenery gives a different perspective on the video that you may not have seen before.

Also with changing the setting we also made sure that all of the dark colors really stood out and looked bold to match the forest setting.
