Acts 13 1 Now there were in the church that was at Antioch certain prophets and teachers; as Barn-abas, and Simeon that was called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manaen, which had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.

The leaders of the church at Antioch are listed:

Barnabas -- a Jew from Cypress

Simeon (called Niger) -- Also a Jew; Roman circles; obviously dark complexioned.

The leaders of the church in Antioch:

Manaen -- raised with Herod the Tetrarch -- actually Herod Antipas, who beheaded John the Baptist and who treated the Lord so shamefully at His trial

Five very different men leading the church in Antioch.

Yet they worked amiably together.

2 As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them. 3 And when they had fasted and prayed, and laid their hands on them, they sent them away.

4 So they, being sent forth by the Holy Ghost, departed unto Seleucia; and from thence they sailed to Cyprus. 5 And when they were at Salamis, they preached the Word of God in the synagogues of the Jews: and they had also John to their minister.

There are some important Truths in these verses:

The church at Antioch was a mixed race church, including the leadership.

A racist attitude has no place in the church.

1 John 3 23 And this is His Commandment, That we should believe on the Name of His Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as He gave us Commandment.

The church at Antioch was also a mixture of social classes that worked together in harmony.

Manaen was raised with Herod -- upper class.

Paul was a highly educated Pharisee.

There were businessmen and slaves.

The men were fasting and praying together.

Don't sacrifice the important upon the altar of the urgent.

The Holy Ghost spoke to them, and they heard.

God still speaks to His children by His Spirit.

We just need to be still and hear His Voice.

After the Holy Ghost spoke to them

They continued to fast and pray.

That signified the involvement of the church in the ministry of Paul and Barnabas.

Pray for them

Money and supplies for the trip

They were with them in spirit and in truth.
