Frogs mature through a process called metamorphosis which is where the frog changes from one form to another. See if you can put the frog life cycle in order from their birth to their adult form. Frogs have an incredibly unique way that they grow during their lives. Frogs mature through a

process called metamorphosis which is where the frog changes from one form to another.

See if you can put the frog life cycle in order from their birth to their adult form.

McHenry County. Learn some unique features that will help you identify

them out in the wild.

American toad (Anaxyrus americanus)

-Look for 1 to 2 “warts” or bumps per dark spot

American bullfrog (Lithobates catesbeianus)

-Blotched, brownish spots with a light-colored belly

Green frog (Lithobates clamitans)

Smooth green-brown body with lines running over back

Spring peeper (Pseudacris crucifer)

Small dark “X” covering the back

Western chorus frog (Pseudacris triseriata)

Three distinct dark lines running over back

Gray tree frog (Hyla versicolor)

Sticky fingers allow it to climb.

Can be green or gray in color
