WORDS FROM OUR PRESIDENT

Happy New Year and praying that this is the beginning of a great year of good health laughter

and lots of activities in Pinehurst.

Hope you didn’t miss the party of all times with delicious good and fellowship. We had a wonderful

Christmas party gathering with 84 persons, People came decked out in red, white and green and

enjoyed numerous glasses of Connie and Ron’s famous punch. MaryAnn and Dick welcomed us

into their beautifully decorated home with lights everywhere. Plan to be with us next year. This

Annual Events needs to be on your calendar.

In February we will hold our elections and annual meeting review. Watch for an announcement

to come soon about this. It is always on a Sunday late afternoon.

This New Year I wish to thank each and every Board Member for their hard work and positive

attitude. It is pure joy to work as a team member to keep our club vibrant and growing.

See you around the Village, hopefully with snow covered trees and folks looking for ACT2 events.

BOOK CLUB

On Monday, January the 22nd the book club will meet at 12:30 PM at Joan Grant’s home, 155

Hearthstone Road in Pinehurst #7, 215-0377 to discuss Slightly South of Simple by Kristie

Woodson Harvey. She was a speaker at the Neighbors of Pinehurst Book Club Luncheon.

Discussion Leader: Susan Scheck-Newsome.

Refreshments: Alice Wood and Susan Scheck-Newsome.

Caroline Murphy swore she’d never set foot back in the small

Southern town of Peachtree Bluff; she was a New York girl born

and bred and the worst day of her life was when, in the wake of her

father’s death, her mother selfishly forced her to move—during her

senior year of high school, no less—back to that hick-infested rat

trap where she'd spent her childhood summers. But now that her

marriage to a New York high society heir has fallen apart in a very

public, very embarrassing fashion, a pregnant Caroline decides to

escape the gossipmongers with her nine-year-old daughter and

head home to her mother, Ansley.

Ansley has always put her three daughters first, especially when

she found out that her late husband, despite what he had always

promised, left her with next to nothing. Now the proud owner of a

charming waterfront design business and finally standing on her

own two feet, Ansley welcomes Caroline and her brood back with open arms. But when her

second daughter Sloane, whose military husband is overseas, and youngest daughter and

successful actress Emerson join the fray, Ansley begins to feel like the piece of herself she had

finally found might be slipping from her grasp. Even more discomfiting, when someone from her

past reappears in Ansley's life, the secret she’s harbored from her daughters their entire lives

might finally be forced into the open.

The book for February will be Last Hope Island: Britain, Occupied Europe, and the

Brotherhood That Helped Turn the Tide of War by Lynne Olson.

A special thank you to all who brought books to our Christmas luncheon. As has been our

tradition, we donate books each year to the 3-5-year-old readers at Head Start, and thanks for

being so generous again this year.

Please call Susie Roeder for any questions 295-1747

SATIATING STORIES

We will meet on Wednesday, January 24th at 11:30 AM at The Sandhills Women's Exchange in

Pinehurst. Our book this month is The Memory Box by Eva Lesko Natiello. There is more than

one book by this title, so if you are looking for this one be sure to check the author's name. The

Memory Box is "a psychological thriller with twists and turns until the very last page".

WHAT IF YOU GOOGLED YOURSELF AND DISCOVERED SOMETHING SHOCKING?

In this page-turner, Caroline Thompson Googles herself and discovers the shocking details of a

past she doesn't remember. In this fast-paced suspense novel, a group of

privileged suburban moms amuse themselves by Googling everyone in town,

digging up dirt to fuel thorny gossip.

Caroline Thompson, devoted mother of two, sticks to the moral high ground and

attempts to avoid these women. She's relieved to hear her name appears only

three times, citing her philanthropy. Despite being grateful that she has nothing

to hide, a delayed pang of insecurity prods Caroline to Google her maiden name-

-which none of the others know.

The hits cascade like a tsunami. Caroline's terrified by what she reads. With every click, the

revelations grow more alarming. They can't be right. She'd know. Caroline is hurled into a state

of paranoia--upending her blissful family life--desperate to prove these allegations false before

someone discovers they're true.

The menu is huge- as they are open both

for lunch and dinner. They have 18

‘Maria’s Favorite Lunches’ usually in price

from $7 to $11, including all the dishes we

love: chili rellena, burritos, chimichangas,

enchiladas, quesadillas, buno grande,

burrito deluxe, fajitas, super nachos and

taco salad. The regular menu also lists

nachos, quesadillas, fajitas, and burros, in

addition to ‘Mexican street fare’ including

tacos, sopes, and tortes. So if you like

Mexican food, you should be able to find

something to eat with us at Maria’s. And

beside the menu, they offer a list of ‘off menu’ items. To view their menu, refer to their website,

www.MariasMexicanPinehurst.com. Maria’s is my favorite Mexican restaurant.

Please contact Freida by January 8 to make a reservation to join us on January 10. Freida can be

reached by phone at 235-9284 or email her at [email protected].

See you there and Happy New Year to you all. In the New Year, may all your lunches be tasty
