Jethro’s Dad

Jethro’s dad had a heart attack, so he couldn’t work anymore. Now Jethro had to grow up and be the man of the house even though he was only 10

years old. He had to do all of the farm work except a little help from his sister here and there. He also

had to worry about his brothers in the war.

The War

All three of Jethro’s brothers were in the war. Two of his brothers were on the north side,

and one was on the south side. Well Jethro lived in the north, so everybody hated there family except a few people. People were so

mad at the Creightons that they burned down their barn. It had all of there wheat and hay

inside of it.

Jenny’s Marriage

Jenny wanted to get married to Shad but her dad wouldn’t let her. Then, Shad got injured

in the war. Jenny went to visit him in Washington D.C. There her dad let her marry him. Jenny eventually came back to Illinois.

She never left again.
