Challenges of a siloed approach:

• No sharing of infrastructure costs and IT resources

• No sharing of intelligence/information e.g. video feeds, data from sensors etc.

• Waste/duplication in investment and effort

• Difficulty in scaling infrastructure management

This fragmented approach is inefficient, has limited effectiveness and is not economical

2. Video Camera and infrastructure to verify incident

3. Network to carry the sensor and video data for analysis

Solution Components Data Flow

1. Sensors detect live traffic conditions and that stream of data is continuously analyzed

2. When congestion conditions change drastically (from free flow to stop/near-stop traffic) the traffic algorithm suspects an incident

3. Traffic operator sees an alarm on map along with feeds from nearby cameras to verify the incident and respond

Using S+C City Network the city can offer Internet Access in the streets to citizens and visitors (tourists, business)

Cities are not offering broadband access, but partner with a SP or ISP

Access is free but time and/or BW limited

Mobile SP would benefit from offloading traffic to wifi

ISP would use advertisement to monetize the wifi access

Functions related to internet access: captive portal, subscriber management, billing, etc. is outside the scope of S+C City Network and addressed by Cisco SP-Wifi solution

S+C City Network and SP-Wifi solutions are complementary

IOT Gateways

Cisco Confidential 30 © 2013-2014 Cisco and/or its affiliates. All rights reserved.

To connect Things to the network and applications a new generation of IoT gateways is needed

Multiple wireless or wired connectivity options to sensor/actuator is required

The Low Power Wireless Networking is currently fragmented with many implementations based on 802.15.4 with limited interoperability: option to support specific HW module is required

Local Processing is required: data collection, raw data sensor processing (inference), etc.

Security: authentication, encryption, VPN over WAN

Flexible and resilient WAN backhaul option is required: wired, wireless

Flexible deployment option: ruggedized for outdoor and harsh environment, pole mount, DIN rail mount in cabinet

Cisco IOT Gateway Framework: a application enabling platform capable of hosting partner HW and SW and the fog computing concept

Wifi Location based services is very relevant in indoor venue (shopping malls, airport, hospital) as there is no other location service like GPS.

In indoor venue, with sufficient Access Point good accuracy (few meters) can be achieved

What is the value of using Wifi Location Service in an outdoor venue where service like GPS is widely available and wifi based location service would not offer same level of accuracy ?

Today there are thousands city smartphone apps (map, tourism, transportation, retail, etc.) using GPS to provide localized information

Why using Location Analytics using Outdoor in a City ?

Cisco Confidential 37 © 2013-2014 Cisco and/or its affiliates. All rights reserved.

City Leaders and Operations are lacking data about what is happening in the city: where are the people or vehicle, where to they often go, where to they stay etc.

Several cities are embracing Cisco Smart+Connected City Network to provide pervasive wired and wifi access for new Smart Services

On top of wireless connectivity Cisco Wifi Infrastructure becomes a sensing infrastructure providing insight of Cities

The goal of Location Analytics is not to replace GPS or to locate in near real-time millions of devices.

The city can understand in key areas the people flow: crowding index, count, typical flows

The location data is owned and managed by city and not external entities (google, tripadvisor, etc.)

Location data is anonymous and non intrusive (i.e. compared to camera based system)

Zone or Point of Interest to gather data (touristic streets, parks, commercial streets) are managed by the city

CMX APIs can be used by City applications or ecosystem to drive new service by correlating Location data with other data
