ABSTRACT

Study of utilization liquid waste biogas from livestock manure as an alternative source of

electrical energy through the technology of Microbial Fuel Cell (MFC) is technology that can

convert complex organic materials in waste to produce electrons through the process of

microbial metabolism. Purpose of this study is to know the characteristics and greater than

the electrical energy which can be generated liquid waste biogas through the system of MFC,

And to investigate the changes in the characteristics of wastewater biogas substrate after the

use of MFC and to know the characteristics of MFC bacteria. The results showed that the

characteristics of liquid waste biogas include COD levels of 1001.92 mg/L, BOD is 805.54

mg/L, content of organic matter in the form of an average organic C is 7.76%, total nitrogen

is14, 00% and C/N ratio is 0.55. MFC one-room system can generate electric power to a

maximum of 1302.2 mV, whereas MFC two-room system using KMnO4 electrolyte at 1084.3

mV and electrical current of 0.1 mL. and MFC system using K2Cr2O4 two rooms at 1675.8

mV and an electric current of 0.99 mL. Showing results MFC substart characteristics that

decrease the organic matter content substart after discharging wastewater biogas is MFC

COD levels be 500.96 mg/L, BOD be 300.23 mg/L, organic C to 2.68%, total nitrogen 2.27%

and C/N ratio of 1.18. Characteristics of MFC bacteria from wastewater biogas largely Gram-

positive and cocci (round), where there is only one form of isolates of Gram-negative bacteria

is isolates S1.1 with cell-shaped bacilli (rod).
