Why Use Data Visualization Tools?

Identify where to target your outreach efforts► Where are the highest areas of need in your

community?

Identify whether special accommodations may be required for outreach (e.g., translation, disability access, etc.)► Can you partner with community

organizations who may help you serve specific populations?


Notes on the Data Visualization Tools

If you don’t remember the direct link, tools/maps can be found by typing “data visualization” in the search bar on NCOA.org

Numbers are best estimates► Except for actual enrollment numbers which come from the

agencies administering the benefits

► Do not focus too much on exact numbers; instead focus on trends

Tools use different geographies (state, county, ZIP code, etc.)

► Areas with limited populations may show as 0 to protect privacy


LIS/MSP Eligible but not Enrolled

The Social Security Administration sends letters to

people they believe are likely eligible but not enrolled in

the Part D Low Income Subsidy (LIS) and/or the

Medicare Savings Programs (MSP)

The NCOA tool that visualizes these data shows where

these letters were sent by ZIP code and county

Why use this tool?

► SSA shared these data to enable partners to know which ZIP

codes would be most useful for targeting outreach

Caveat:

► SSA based its mailing on Social Security retirement/disability

income benefits

► Letters do not take into consideration other sources of

income or assets

► Therefore, some may not be qualified for these programs.



LIS and MSP letters are shown in different tabs on the Google Fusion map

Data may take a moment to load

Darker colors indicate more letters were mailed in that geographic area

Use the Map tabs and zoom into a specific area in your service region to determine how many LIS and/or MSP letters were mailed to a specific ZIP code



You can also use the Table tab to look up a specific ZIP code

Click the blue filter button and type in a ZIP code (e.g., 78624)

Note that where a ZIP code spans multiple counties, the

numbers appear duplicated. Do not tally the numbers.

MSP/Medicaid Enrollment

This tool allows you to view enrollment in each dual-eligible

Medicaid and Medicare Savings Program at the state- and

county-level.

► Qualified Medicare Beneficiary (QMB)

► QMB+ (qualified for QMB and Medicaid)

► Specified Low Income Beneficiary (SLMB)

► SLMB+ (qualified for SLMB and Medicaid)

► Qualifying Individual (QI)

► Other (categorically eligible for Medicaid but not MSPs)
