Our Vision About Us The Aboriginal Housing Office (AHO) is a statutory authority established under the Aboriginal Housing Act 1998 (NSW) and a NSW Government agency. It is governed by an all-Aboriginal Board that provides advice to the Minister for Family and Community Services. We exist to: Focus on the needs of Aboriginal people Provide quality and affordable housing Provide choice and opportunity through innovative pathways Be a recognised sector leader Provide equal and equitable access to housing Our core activities The AHO develops strategies and programs that are effective, sustainable, and above all else, focused on Aboriginal tenants. We work in partnership with Aboriginal Community Housing Providers and Aboriginal communities to develop a future where: Social housing is not an end point but a point along a path for Aboriginal people More Aboriginal people own their own homes More Aboriginal people are in private rental Aboriginal communities have a voice and are confident in AHO Services The AHO is tenant outcome focused We develop policies, programs and initiatives that will help us to realise this future. Shane Hamilton Client Services– supporting Aboriginal people to maintain safe and affordable housing and stay connected to family and community. Sector Development – assisting Aboriginal Community Housing Providers with advice on planning, business operations, tenancy management and asset management. Contract Management strengthening the Aboriginal community housing sector by ensuring robust and standardised tenancy management, rent collection, asset protection, and governance arrangements that are consistent with National Regulatory Housing Standards. Strategic Asset Management using our assets strategically to ensure more housing opportunities for Aboriginal people.
