Newsletter 15th May 2020

It’s hard to believe another week has passed us by in this period of uncertainty. It seems that as we seek to return to

some form of normality things might seem more unsettled than ever as feelings of hope and fear are thrown together.

Please be assured that we are here for you and care deeply about you and your journey through this time. We hold on to

a hope that soon we will be back in school together socialising, playing, celebrating and learning without risk or fear. In

the meantime, keep going. Keep living by our values and trying to do your best in your home learning. Keep positive that

each and every day has an opportunity to grow, learn and develop. Thank you for your pictures.

Many of you have enjoyed drawing with Rob. On Thursday 21st May, he along with many children are attempting to set a new world record for the largest online art lesson. It would be great if lots of children from Abberley could be part of this brilliant opportunity and become world record holders.

Wrens

I hope you have had a good week. Thank you for sending in the pictures of your garden designs. They looked amaz-ing!

There were some brilliant lands at the top of the beanstalk too and next week we are going to be thinking the charac-ters we might meet in these lands and writing our own beanstalk stories.

I hope you have been enjoying the work on multiplication and doubles this week. Next week we are going to be look-ing at division and sharing. Mickey Thompson and Purvis are looking forward to demonstrating this with biscuits!

In science we will be looking at how our seeds are getting on. We will also be having a go at drawing and labelling some plants, as well as finding out why the different parts of the plants are important. We will also be doing some RE and listening to some stories from different religions.

Have a wonderful weekend and enjoy the sunshine.

Skylarks

I cannot believe we have completed another week of home learning as time is passing by so quickly. Well done to all

the Skylarks who have been busy washing their teddy animals and then writing instructions on how they did it. So far,

I have read and enjoyed instructions on how to wash a dog, octopus, bunny, turtle and even a unicorn baby! I think

some mischief has occurred in many Skylarks’ homes this week! Hopefully, this week Skylarks have become experts in

comparing number sentences using the signs < > = and able to use related facts to solve mathematical problems. Next

week I am changing the groups around for the TTRockstars challenge so check Monday’s learning page to see which

group you have been placed in. Good luck. Do not forget to share your ‘Andy Goldsworthy’ pieces of natural artwork

with me and then they can be published in next week’s newsletter.

Kingfishers

Maths

Miss Hughes' group - more fractions work this week! You are going to be moving on to adding and subtracting frac-tions. Your work on equivalent fractions and the knowledge you've now got on comparing fractions will really help you next week.

Mrs. Gregory & Mrs. Postlethwaite's group - you will be starting the week working on rounding decimals. Place val-ue grids at the ready again! Later in the week you will be converting simple fractions into decimals, which I'm sure you will pick up easily.

Thank you so much for all of you who are sharing work with me on J2e. It's lovely when you respond to any com-ments I make as it feels like we're having a conversation!

The first lot of chapters from Slime will be available to listen to from Monday! It seems like it's going to be a really funny and exciting book and I hope you're going to love it! In English next week, there will again be a big mixture of activities to keep you busy and full of fun at home with your families. Do remember to upload your work to j2e!

Merlins

This week I have been very impressed with the work coming from Merlins class. It is admirable to see how hard many of you are working at home and it is certainly paying off! On Thursday, I uploaded a video to the class page showing you how to share your work with only me on J2E so I am able to see what you have been producing; pro-vide some feedback as well as reconnect with many of you who I haven’t heard from in a while. Please go and watch this video if you have yet to and continue to share your work with me on J2E.

This week in English, we began our new class book ‘The Stolen Sister’ and I have already seen some great work com-ing from only the first two chapters. This is book is exciting with a great plot and many interesting charac-ters. Please go and listen to it on the Stories page of the website if you are yet to. The story is set in the Victorian period and one task this week was to write a setting description of a Victorian pub with plenty of atmosphere. The descriptions I have seen have been fantastic with great use of the 5 senses.

In Maths, we have been consolidating or knowledge of fractions, practising our fluency in order to build up to rea-soning and problem solving tasks. In Geography, we have studied famous volcanos as well as the structure and fea-tures of a volcano. Next week, we will be moving onto a History based topic.
