heavy noises and electronic music craze, just like mixing sonic youth with Aphex twin, a bit of ambient, a touch of classic Kraftwerk and some post-rock freakout. We can safely claim that a very exciting and truly unique band is appearing on the stage of the A38 on this night. five-piece cult group 65daysofstatic – according to several critics they are one of the best post-rock bands in the world – was formed in sheffield in the early 2000s, and has filled 5 albums with its unique music; 2013’s Wild light being the latest one.

if you haven’t been to an eatbrain night, then we’ll tell you what you can expect: one of hungary’s most successful drum&bass DJ’s, Jade, also well-known in other countries, collects the young, talented european characters, who will form the scene in the upcoming years. he will release their music and invite them to Budapest so that can introduce them to you in a party that will test the ship’s soundsystem and the solidness of the walls. total madness! if you have been to an eatbrain party, you already know this. We’re expecting you!

it is safe to call metalcore band Converge, formed in salem, massachussetts in 1990, legendary. they created their own playground from elements they borrowed from heavy metal and punk rock. „hardcore guys with thrown-out slayer riffs” – this is how they determined themselves in the beginning, but since then, they have become a lot more: a band that can define its own style. During their career they have made seven albums, and broke through with Jane Doe in 2001, their latest record is All We love We leave Behind from 2012.

Cari lekebusch is an electronic music producer and DJ from stock-holm, who spins music on a wide scale – he plays everything from techno to hip hop, and has also created his own record label, h. productions. he started out as a member of the remix collective swemix in the early 90s, but soon afterwards his own music began to take up his time. he has released songs under several aliases, and mentions Afrika Bambaataa, James Brown, herbie hancock and Kraftwerk among his main influences. As a consequence of this, his music is tight, improvisational and funky.

Baskerville is a Dutch electro duo from haarlem consisting of thijs van der Klugt and Bart possemis. their style is compared to Daft punk or Justice. Just like the two french duo’s, Baskerville’s music is similarly eclectic: they mix breakbeat and metal, hip hop and funk, drum&bass and dreampop. they released their latest album strongroom in 2013, and on this night, they receive support from their fellow countrymen nobody Beats the Drums and guerilla speakerz.

chelsea wolfe is a singer-songwriter from sacramento, california, currently residing in los angeles. her music incorporates a lot of different elements: folk, blues, goth, electronica, noise rock, and even more. she’s coming to the a38 promoting her latest album, Pain is Beauty.

where did the idea of lone and the whole collaboration with Mark Pellington come from?mark was originally going to make a music video for the Waves have Come and we would have meetings to talk about what the video would be like and what the music means for both of us. During these meetings we listened to the whole album and he felt he wanted to expand the music video into a short film with five songs from the album and a surreal storyline. what was in the footages of the earthquakes and the tsunamis in Japan that inspired you so much?i watched a documentary about the earthquake and tsunami in Japan with footage taken by people actually experiencing it – their overwhelming loss and trying to find loved ones who had been separated. it of course affected and inspired me and as i was writing the album i found that natural disasters and cycles of nature reflected in humanity was becoming a big theme. why is nature so important to you? how does it inspire your music?it’s a return to self and it’s a place for beautiful peace.. isolation and desolation. nature is symbolic of our own lives and we all return to it someday. Carl sagan told us we are made of the same stuff the stars are made of. Pain is Beauty is very different from your earlier, acoustic albums. did you want to make a more electronical album, or the songs just went that way?About three or four years ago i really wanted to add an electronic element to my live band, and i met Ben Chisholm (on tour with another band), who now plays synths and bass in the band. We found that we could write well together and started working on these electronic songs for fun. We thought we’d do a side project with it but over time i realized that i don’t want to put limits on my own project so we started incorporating some of those electronic songs into the live set and they

felt good and right. so, when i started the new album i knew i wanted some of those songs on there. You are sometimes referred as “the gothic lana del rey” – and i sometimes get the feeling that you both obscure your true selves, presenting yourselves as mythical, idealised icons.i like lana Del rey. i don’t think i present myself as an icon. my fashion sense is inspired by characters like Joan of Arc and the Blue Diva from the fifth element so i have a tendency to lean towards dramatic, long silhouettes, with some piece of armour on me. But beyond that i am pretty raw on stage. it’s not easy for me to get on stage because i have stage fright, so dressing up helps me to prepare for the experience like a ritual. luckily i have an amazing stylist, Jenni hensler, who helps guide me in the fashion world. Your song Feral love was used in the promotional videos of hannibal and game Of thrones. is it strange that many people possibly know you as „the girl who performed Feral love”?it was really cool to see feral love set to game of thrones’ new trailer, but beyond that i don’t think about if people know me for that song or not. if someone likes all of my music or just one song it’s oK, i’m going to keep doing what i do regardless. And i mean, it’s not like many radio stations are playing my music, so i feel happy that new people get to hear it through trailers. i personally love trailers. i love film and good series. what was it like to work with King dude and Mark lanegan? and to tour with Queens Of the stone age?tJ from King Dude and i are good friends and he is a great creative spirit guide. We have made two split 7” together and will make more music together in the future. mark lanegan covered one of my songs and it was an honor - i think he’s a great artist. touring with Queens of the stone Age was a real treat as they are truly one of the greatest bands of our time and also good friends. i learned a lot from them. i also got to sing on the russian Circles album last year and that was really special. have you ever been to Budapest? what would you say to your hungarian fans, what can they expect at your first hungarian concert?i’ve never been to Budapest! i look forward to it and hope they enjoy…

poppers and rockers, acid-jazzists and hip-hoppers, funk-soul brothas and indieists, girls and guys, frontmen and musicians with instruments – the improvisational feel-good party program is a constant act in clubs and festivals, in Budapest and in the country as well. random trip is perhaps the most important bastion of the A38, and this time, in the fresh Danube air, under the blue sky we can nod our heads and jump around – whatever suits you.

formed on the ruins of one-time indie band Jacked, this hungarian five-piece guitar pop band, fronted by a charming female singer, has chosen a truly symbolic name, as they combine the local atmosphere with anglo-saxon guitar music, and also with American soul, blues and country influences. needless to say, in a very enjoyable way.

hard rock, prog, psychedelia, grunge – five-peace turbo, formed in 2005, has stirred its unique musical world from these ingredients, and counts as one of the most confident collectives of the local music scene. great freakouts, heavy riffs, adventurous improvs and strong vocal melodies, which might even cause a stargate to open from the roof terrace of the A38 towards the sky.

electrocore, or else electronic music, mixing metal, raw breakdowns and screams, added with an almost poppy singing voice. this is the right description of hungarian five-piece Claps for Caroline, operating since 2010. since debuting locally, they have entered the international concert market, and they have also received American and Japanese label support.

American straight edge hardcore/punk on the roof terrace! formed in 2012, test of time does seem to have stood the test of time, as the band, comprised of experienced members, has released an ep and an album called By Design. on their current tour, they have also appeared on the most important european hC festivals, whereas the international press considers them the most hopeful band in their genre.

“We can be heroes, just for one day…”, sang David Bowie, but you don’t necessarily have to be a hero for one day only. hungarian hip hop crew hősök (meaning: heroes) started out from Veszprém in 2001, won a rap talent contest in 2003, and we’ve been hearing their music in local radios since the second half of the 2000s. they constantly perform in clubs, festivals aren’t organized without them, and they are especially excellent when they play as a live act.

hangmás mixes the bittersweet flavors of 1980’s hungarian underground with the dark tones of post-punk and the verve of mo-dern, sometimes electronic indie guitar pop. they connect their tunes with familiar, sometimes angry, sometimes depressive, sometimes sensitive big city stories and also a touch of delicate irony. the band has filled four albums with this special mixture, the latest one being 2013’s eponymous record, their best creation so far.

Watch my Dying is a five-piece metal group formed in esztergom in 1999, its music is a combination of thrash, death and industrial metal. During their career, they have released three long players and five eps, and they have also appeared on several compilation albums. in hun-gary, they constantly perform with international rock bands, and for some time now, they have been playing in european clubs as well. the quintet is going to shake the roof terrace of the A38 on this night with severe after-effects.

Zsuzsanna Batta aka marge plays poppy and artistic electronic music at the same time. she released her debut album titled And in 2010 as a free download, and in 2013, she went through a complete change of image and music. she released her single stronger, which will hopefully be followed by her second album, Under the Visible line, this year. marge is also known for entering the local qualifications for the eurovision Contest with her song morning light.

hungarian band isten háta mögött (also known as ihm) is a real cult favorite. the fans love them, and the music journalists also take off their hats to them. And what is what we hear? tough question. metal, grunge, funk, prog, electronica, psychedelia, humor, depth and heaviness, with lyrics sometimes on a poetic level. A truly unique universe of their own. support comes from previous ihm member Csaba Bokros’s band, Dereng.

sena Dagadu, hailing from ghana, is best-known as the singer of noted hungarian band irie maffia, mixing Jamaican musical styles with hip hop and funk. Before her time in the group, she released a solo album (first one) in 2004, and last year, she released her second one titled lots of trees. on this night, she will be backed by the great musicians of irie maf-fia on the A38, playing smokey blues, soul and funk with a touch of world music as well.

restaurant6

augustOFFerto go with the popular random trip series, the restaurant is preparing a highly reasonable offer in the month of August as well.

it is not a problem if you haven’t bought a concert+dinner ticket in advance – you can do it on the spot, which means that you don’t have to give up on the dinner.

our dinner offer to go with the concert can be ordered on this night in the A38 restaurant:grilled pork chops served with pepper sauce and crockettsorgrilled chicken breast served with mixed salad in yoghurt saucethe price of these meals is 1500 ft.

on tuesdays, we do not only prepare the concert+dinner meals; the guests of the A38 restaurant can also choose from our menu selection and our monthly offers. Apart from the menu, we are also expecting everyone with our italian offer, due to our guests’ request.

refreshments on the shipWe are very proud that our lemonades have been voted among the top 10 lemonades of the city. they really are worth trying.

primarily, most visitors don’t come to the ship to drink lemonades, but in the hot spell it is a great idea to sit on the A38 terrace and enjoy the light Danube breeze with a refreshment drink, which doesn’t necessarily have to be a beer or a wine spritzer. our plain lemonade is sour, bitter, it cools down your throat and is full of citruses. the raspberry one presents a slightly softer flavor, and the sour cherry version is also excellent. Another great advantage of the ship’s lemonades is that the sparkling water is pleasantly stingy, so we don’t have to go without the bubbles.

summer menu + new dishesnaturally, apart from making sure that our guests won’t stay thirsty, we will also satisfy their gastronomical desires.

the big favorite in our summer menu is the chili king crabs in a broached parmesan ring, on a roman salad, and we must not forget the main meal that is the most popular among our foreign visitors: spiced mangalitsa in chives mustard, on home-made „lángos.”

soon, we will be changing our seasonal summer menu, and our chef, Krisztián Bozsányi, together with our restaurant manager Attila nagy, are already working on it.

in advance, we can reveal that we are planning to carry on with the international direction, but we are also intending to prepare a real hungarian offer next to our menu.

We will continue with the tradition of lunch meals on every weekday, consisting of two courses, for the price of 1150 ft.

the daily meals of the A38 restaurant can be found on facebook and the website of the ship (www.a38.hu).

A38 is the reincarnation of ‘tripolie’, a Ukrainian stone-carrier ship, built in 1968. the name comes from Artemovsk, which is the ship prototype, and this one was the 38th unit of the ‘Artemovsk’ class. the re-building project lasted for one and a half years. Architects, ship engineers, acoustic designers, electricians, musi-cians and promoters contributed their skills and experience to make it a both artist and audience friendly place.

After years of constant development, A38 has become a cultural entertainment centre with international programme, a restaurant, five bars, one main concert hall, open-air terraces and lounges - all in one aboard as one of the most fascinating venues in Budapest. since its opening it became the flagship of Budapest nightlife, a must-see spectacle on the Danube with scenic view and one of europe’s coolest clubs, which has been voted ‘the World’s greatest Bar’ – according to the poll of lonely planet in 2012.

A38 ship is located in Budapest, at the Buda side of petőfi bridge, easily accessible by a few minutes walk from tram 4 and 6 “petőfi híd budai hídfő” stop or by BKV public transport ships.

the concert hall is a place for live shows and parties, and several bars ship-wide are open for the audience to chat and have a drink.the restaurant offers a daily menu every weekday from 12h to 15h for 1150 hUf.

our roof terrace is closed in the autumn/winter season and reopens in April 2013.for our smoking visitors, we have a heated smoking terrace area with its own bar.

A38 – a place for parties, concerts, dinners and drinks on the river Dan-ube.

a38 shiP BudaPest

A38 ship is an entertainment center with a special constellation of an international programme, a restaurant, bar, a concert hall, an open-air terraces, a lounge and other celestial pleasures - all in one aboard as one of the most fascinating venues in Bu-dapest. Being at the intersection of the four cardinal directions it is the median of Bu-dapest nightlife and one of europe’s coolest clubs, and has been voted ’the World’s greatest Bar’ (in a lonely planet poll) and ’europe’s Best Venue’ by the readers of electronic Beats magazine. Use your compass and navigate to A38 ship, Budapest.
