HOW DID YOU USE MEDIA TECHNOLOGIES IN THE CONSTRUCTION

AND RESEARCH, PLANNING AND EVALUATION STAGES?

CONSTRUCTION AND RESEARCH STAGE

When carrying out initial research and planning, I used PowerPoint to construct many different presentations of the

information I found. This made my research appear more formal, but visually

appealing to look at, and was easier to include more images rather than having a big piece

of text to read.

I then used side share as a way of embedding my PowerPoint onto my blog. This also later made it easy to get feedback as

I was able to share my

presentations through slide

share.YouTube was one of the main media technologies I used when carrying out my research. I used YouTube to

embed existing music videos into my blog, to watch and evaluate the common conventions of them.

YouTube gave me access to a wide range of music videos that fit into my

chosen genre, and meant I could include the video I was talking about on my actual blog. This also meant

the large piece of evaluative text was easier to read as it had a video with

it..

CONSTRUCTION AND RESEARCH STAGE

For audience research, I used my phone to voice record interviews with people from my chosen research. I then used premier

to make this into a suitable file that I could put on my blog. I made a title and a still image to match the interviewee, and

added another still image in the description below, when uploading my

premier file to Blogger.

I also conducted an audience research interview through

the use of a video camera, and used premier to upload it onto by blog as a video rather than

a voice recording.

To collect as much audience research as possible, I used survey monkey to create a questionnaire that I could share with my chosen focus group. I used this media technology a

long with social networking sites to gather as much responses as I could. This media technologies proved to be very useful in my research as they were easy to use, made

it easy to target the right audience, and obtained a substantial amount of results, as it is something everyone

uses ad is familiar with.

PLANNING STAGE

When planning out what our magazine advert would look like, we used publisher to get a poster

template. This media technology was useful because it made it easier to know where to put certain conventions of the advert, such as the

artists names and the album title, along with the main focal point image. We used tools in publisher

that helped us find the centre of the page, and ensure that each thing on the page was central and

lined up.

To create a plan for the digipak, we didn’t use

media technologies as it was drawn out by hand. However, we did use t

scanner on the printer, to scan the image onto our

hard drives, to put on our blogs.

For our photography planning, we used a camera to take

photographs of what we want on our digipak and poster. We could demonstrate how close we wanted our close ups, and how we wanted the artists to

be positioned in the real photographs. We hen used

PowerPoint to present them, and place grid lines over the images to show how they will be presented to he audience

according to the grid.

We used many different media technologies in the production stage. We used a camera to take our long

shot image of the three artists, for the magazine advert. We were able to ensure the image wasn’t

pixelated and was focused, so the photo looked as

professional as possible.

For the font styles, we used the internet, and website ‘DaFont’ to get styles that were most

appropriate for our genre of music and our target

audience of young females.

PRODUCTION STAGE

The main media technology used to create the magazine advert, was Photoshop. We

used this technology to adjust lighting, brightness

and colour levels to make the image of the girls appear to be perfect, like all photos

used in real magazine products. We also used Photoshop to made the

studio background pink, as we wanted the target

audience to be attracted to the advert as much as

possible. Through the use of Photoshop, we could also

import images from google, that added to the typical

conventions most magazine adverts use, such as the star rating, record label logo, and

the social network tabs. Photoshop also enabled us to

add as much text as we wanted in different styles.

This helped make the advert more attractive to look at as

it wasn’t all he same typography.

PRODUCTION STAGE

To produce the digipak, we once

again used similar media

technologies to the magazine

advert. We used the camera to capture the

extreme close up of one of the

artists blowing bubble gum, and another extreme close up for the eyes (the tripod helped us get so lose an keep the camera steady).

We took individual photos with the camera for the images

on the front cover.

I used Photoshop a lot for this

production piece. As well as editing the colouring in

the photographs to make them look professional, I

used other tools to create he

adjoining pages. I used the magnetic

lasso tool to cut round the image of the three artists, then deleted the layer to create he silhouette image

for the back. I also used the same tool to cut out the ‘eye’

image to fit the shape of the CD. I

then used the shape tool to add the black stripes.

Finally, I used Photoshop to import an image off google – for the bubble-gum splatter – and cut round it to appear as if the word ‘bang’ has burst out

from it. Photoshop made it a lot easier to get the same or similar appearance as our ideas in our

planning stage.

PRODUCTION

For the production of my music video, I used a wide rage

of media technologies. We used the camera and tripod to film all camera angles,

shots and movements for the

whole video. We then imported our clips into Premier,

putting them together to

produce the whole the video. In

premier we could synchronise the clips where the

artists are miming, with the

song we had embedded from

YouTube.

By using premier, we could also speed

up clips, and put clips into slow

motion. Tis made it easy to fit our shots into the music and

make it in time with the music. There

were also a range of video effects that we added to make the video appear more professional and high budget.

We had a shot where close ups of

the three artists slid in separately, a shot where an artist was lip syncing in four

split screens, and a flashing effect as if a photo was being

taken.

Finally, we used the social network YouTube to upload our video onto. From this we could obtain audience feedback in comment/hit section, and upload the video ontomy blog.

ALL THREE STAGES

For all three stages of my coursework, I used the media

technology : Blogger. I uploaded and embedded all

aspects of my work on here, to present it in a visually

attractive way, as well as write a description about what I

have done and found.
